These niche memes are based on the mysterious character W.D. Gaster, who isn't actually seen in any physical form in the game but is suspected to play a major role behind-the-scenes.

The memes began with a thread on X that portrays Gaster as a pirate with a weird-looking parrot and a shanty-singing crew.

The pirate Gaster memes blew up, inspiring mock-ups of what the boss fight might look like, fake cutscenes, fan art and much more.

Kwebbelkop Laughing / YourRAGE Laugh

In third place, with 9 percent of the total votes, is the "Kwebbelkop Laughing" meme. This meme centers around a funny laugh by streamer YourRAGE, which users claim sounds like Dutch YouTuber Kwebbelkop.

Hatsune Miku World Cup Custody Battle

Coming in fourth place with about 7.5 percent of the total votes is the "Hatsune Miku Custody Battle" meme, a series of 2026 FIFA World Cup memes that treated each game as a battle for custody of Vocaloid superstar Hatsune Miku.

The meme was born at the end of June 2026 when X user @rosco_graves made a post joking that whoever won the Japan vs. Brazil match got custody of Hatsune Miku.

This tweet, which references Brazilian Miku, set forth a steady flow of memes about each country battling for their respective Miku. These memes included a ton of fan art of each Hatsune MIku, which only got more heated as the World Cup raged on.

Mbappé Special

Finally, coming in fifth place with roughly 7 percent of the total votes, is the "Mbappe Special" meme, a slang term based on a viral video of French footballer Kylian Mbappé telling a Vanity Fair interviewer that the "Mbappe special," regarding his cooking specialty, is, "for example, nothing."

The term "Mbappé Special" became a huge meme on TikTok as users turned it into a synonym for the word "nothing." They began posting skits and memes that use the clip of Mbappé saying, "For example, nothing," and simply using the term "Mbappé special" without context to refer to the clip.

This was just one of the many memes that went viral related to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but it proved one of the most powerful and far-reaching, earning it the fiftth place spot in our Meme of the Month awards.
