What Is 'Dwerking'? The Male Answer To 'Twerking' That's Taking Over TikTok Explained

Guys on TikTok have invented a new dance that riffs on "twerking." The move is being called "dwerking," and instead of shaking one's behind, it's all about shaking one's johnson.
The lewd maneuver has been dubbed the "dance of the summer," possibly meaning that a White Boy Summer to beat all White Boy Summers is upon us. But where did this trend come from?
Curious about the origins of "dwerking?" We can explain it here. Just be sure to wipe your search history after.

What Is 'Dwerking?'
"Dwerking," or "to dwerk," is the male alternative to twerking — a dance move that involves shaking one's rear, which was coined way back in 2002. The fellas have been waiting patiently for their own version of the iconic dance, as many men don't have the body required for the skill.
Enter "dwerking," which instead uses a guy's front part, often seen during "Grey Sweatpants Season." The simple, rhythmic thrusting motion, displayed in many recent TikTok videos, is the only move required.

Where Did 'Dwerking' Come From?
The earliest discovered dwerking video was shared by a TikToker named @mojothewzzrd back in May. Like many dwerking videos, this original video has an unserious tone, given away by its POV caption.
It jokes about "dwerking at the function and a girl tries to get in front like l'm easy or sum." The TikToker is seen shoving away the imaginary female aggressor.

What Are Some More 'Dwerking' Memes?
Dwerking videos have only become more common since the original post. People are doing it for their girlfriends or for other avatars in a VRChat lobby. Some women have also offered the "pwerk" as their own alternative (you can guess the meaning).
Dwerking has also gone feminist. "Dwerk if woman products should be free," wrote one TikToker in his viral video.
No matter how or why you dwerk, just make sure you have fun doing it, because it's what we're all doing this summer (at least according to this TikToker).
