I better keep my ass in this office!!! or I'm FINISHED ‼️" The edit was originally posted to the /r/OnePiecePowerScaling subreddit in September 2023 and became the further subject of edits over the following months, in which the caption and other aspects of the image are edited to alter the context of the scene.

Origin

On September 6th, 2023, Redditor u/Pale-Efficiency-1797 posted an edited One Piece panel to /r/OnePiecePowerScaling^[1] in which Admiral Akainu says while staring out at the sea, "That boy Zoro can cut magma now huh…. I better keep my ass in this office!!! or I'm FINISHED ‼️" garnering over 260 upvotes in two months (shown below). This is the earliest known user to post the meme.

The meme was reposted to /r/Piratefolk^[2] on September 11th, garnering over 180 upvotes in two months. On October 22nd, Redditor u/TheOtherJTG posted a photoshop of the meme to /r/MemeHunter^[3] referencing the Monster Hunter series of video games, garnering over270 upvotes in two months (shown below, right). This is the earliest known photoshop of the meme.

Spread

The meme continued to spread over the following weeks, inspiring new variations. On October 28th, 2023, the meme was referenced in a post by X^[4] user @OhPugChamp, garnering over 500 likes in a month. On October 31st, YouTuber^[5] Kaitsu posted a video recreating the meme using a scene from the One Piece anime, also posting it to /r/OnePiece,^[6] garnering over 4,100 views on the former and 2,700 upvotes on the latter in a month (shown below).

On October 29th, Instagram^[7] user austinpowers_fanguy posted a version of the meme referencing Five Nights at Freddy's, garnering around 100 likes in a month (shown below, left). On October 31st, u/sbcat15 posted a version of the meme to /r/shittydarksouls^[8] referencing Dark Souls that garnered over 600 upvotes in a month (shown below, right). The former meme was reposted by Instagram^[9] user kirby.the.star.warrior.blizzy that day and by Instagram^[10] user mugiwara on November 10th, garnering over 1,700 likes and 3,100 likes respectively three weeks.

The phrasing of the meme also became the subject of memes on X as a catchphrase. For example, on November 7th, X^[11] user @krembeni posted "Kobeni can bust it down in DDR now? I better keep my ass in this office, or Im finished!!" over an image from the Chainsaw Man manga, garnering over 1,200 likes in three weeks (shown below).
