What's The 'Gi-hun Bunny' Meme? 'Squid Game' Actor Lee Jung-jae's 'I'm The Easter Bunny' Meme Explained

The Squid Game fandom has cooked up an insane new meme on TikTok, centering on a photo of South Korean actor Lee Jung-jae, known for his role as Seong Gi-hun (Player 456), wearing a bunny costume.
Why is Jung-jae wearing a bunny costume? That doesn't seem to be the main concern going through the minds of the people making these aptly named "brainrot" memes.
Luckily, we've tracked the origin of the so-called "Gi-hun Bunny" meme and have discovered why it's paired with a sound repeating, "I'm the Easter Bunny." Let's explain.

Where Does The 'Gi-hun Bunny' Photo Come From?
The photographs of South Korean actor Lee Jung-jae in a bunny costume were taken for Netflix's editorial project Queue for the journal's cover story on the actor. The story was released ahead of season 3 of Squid Game, which has sparked several memes already.
It's ultimately unclear why photographer Hong Jang Hyun chose the bunny headdress, but the actor is seen in it twice: once facing the camera, and in the other, giving a cheeky side-eye.

Where Does The 'Gi-hun Bunny' Meme Come From?
After the photoshoot, fans of Squid Game discovered the images and centered their meme-making on the bunny stills.
A TikToker named @s0kkasboomerang_ shared the earliest post we could find honoring Jung-jae's rabbit get-up. "I love this stupid picture of Lee Jung-jae in a bunny hat, it fills me with immeasurable joy," they wrote in the video's caption.

What Is The 'I'm The Easter Bunny' Meme?
Some people have been calling this meme the "I'm the Easter Bunny" meme, mostly because of the audio that a majority of the TikTok videos are using. It's a deep, male voice repeating the affirmation about being the famed holiday mascot, the Easter Bunny.
The original audio comes from a 2024 video posted by TikToker @official.mrhungry. It's an unsettling video, according to viewers. Many didn't enjoy the choco-body horror that the TikToker jumpscares with.
At the time, the video inspired a lot of memes, and now it's back because of the Gi-hun Bunny trend.

How Is The 'Gi-hun Bunny' Meme Used Online?
The Gi-hun Bunny meme is taking the shape of a classic "brainrot" trend, given away by its use of nonsensical CapCut filters and effects, which both subvert and complement the innocence of the actor's expression.

Squid Game is a dark show, so one reading of this trend is that the whimsy conveyed in the Gi-hun Bunny photo is helping viewers cope with the violence on screen.
Seeing the show's protagonist in a bunny outfit contrasts with his jaded personality in the third season.
Plus, Gi-hun Bunny is not alone. He's mixing with another popular and odd Squid Game meme budding from this latest season, known online as "Papa Squid Game." The two brainrotted characters are being powerscaled for no reason, except for the chaos that the memes create.
