Well going to bed. I'm working again next week I have to be up at 3:30am leave at 4 to be at work at 5 then work for 12 hours. Good night all, probably will not be on much. No more fighting or I swear to god I will turn this car around!! Post ponies or else dammit!

Sadness is a central component to the show. It's not as important as, say, friendship and happiness, but it is one of the main sources of conflict. So, I definitely think there will be more sadness in the show. Also, I think Pinkie has been singled out as one of the saddest ponies (sometimes) because it's so antithetical to her normal personality, and thus provides good storylines.

I look forward to more sadness in the show; I think they deal with it very well.

RANT MODE:
I am tired of the fucking degenerates hanging out at wall mart at night. Honestly, a bunch of Gang bangers and jackasses. I just went to wall mart to get some stuff and this dumb bitch had a cart in the middle of a the parking space I wanted to use, I asked her why she wouldn't move it and then she tolled me that she was going to remove the cart. I then politely tell her that she could move it and still report it, her and her fucking inbred dumbass family starts giving me shit so I just walk to the wall mart. When I get in, her stupid 16-17 year old brother wants to fight in the middle of the wall mart! So I start yelling "get the fuck out you Goddamn degenerate, I just want my Dexter, and you better not be waiting for me outside you bitch" and then security comes. I explain calmly that I find it unacceptable that people like them be allowed in here. They get kicked out and aren't allowed in there anymore. I actually practice submission grappling and muy thai, so the whole time I was contemplating just teaching this loud mouth a lesson, but I took the higher road( also the one that doesn't get me in legal trouble for beating up a minor) whole time I was thinking…
Seriously though, Why should people like them be allowed to breed? Honestly, why.
RANT OVER

@ Verbose
Why am I labeled as a hot head? Id say I'm usually quite calm. Ive argued a couple times, but thats it. I usually just joke around here

@phoneix

Excellent because I think we've got a discussion topic right here:

*The fandom is beginning to focus more on each other than the show.

The above quote made me think about the life cycle of a star.

We have stopped burning hydrogen and now we are burning helium. Feeding off ourselves to keep burning?

Is our fandom already at that point where its just about us now as a community? Or is this specific to our community on KYM here only? Either way does this mark the autumn years of our fandom?

Where are we at in the life cycle of the fandom and what could we be in store for in the future?

[edit]

ninjacount = 5: but I cheated. I started writing, then halfway through this I stopped to post something else on another thread, then came back to this

@Dac

I think your above rant is exactly why you are labeled as a hot head but I'm guessing you wrote that ironically.

I think it was something you did back in the 2nd Pony General that earned you that impression but I do not remember what it was

@Verbose

More sad episodes are on the way for certain, they work so well in the show. You will most likely get diabetus, sorry.

@dac

Comparatively. opspe, BSoD, phoneix, Algernon and other discuss and debate things on occasion, but I would rarely take offense to how they go about it. If I was at the end of one of Citation's more angry posts, I'd probably feel like a goofy duck with no bill.

Speaking of the goofy billless duck make-feeler…yeah, I usually make fun of Dash to get your goat. But I sincerely like that image. kp-shadowsquirrel has a different approach to FiM ponies' expressions and bodies, but I like most of them.

Well, the ones that don't involve shipping. Those are kinda weird.

@BSoD

NERRRRRRRRRRRD.

Just kidding. I really like that analogy. I feel like we are feeding off of ourselves a bit, but not to its imminent end. And not in the group sense, but in an individual sense. I feel like I could get along with a lot of you individually and not just as a group. Ponies would have little to do with it.

And CitationNeeded doesn't seem to feel like we're dying. I wouldn't say we're dying either, but I feel like the fandom has changed its emphasis from PONY to PONY/Bronies to PONY/friends.

Daniel also said that what occurs on KYM isn't necessarily indicative of what goes on elsewhere, and I acknowledge that point. I don't post on any other forum nor do lurk in many other places, Pony or non-Pony. But I do feel like we've changed. Not for better or worse. Just changing a bit. I don't think many people that have been here for a while are considering leaving KYM or not posting on Pony General anymore.

Last edited Jan 16, 2012 at 02:06AM EST

I'll admit that I did put that there ironically, but honestly, I don't like confrontation. I just call people out and won't back down.

But come to think , I never really started anything on this thread before. I have been really calm lately too. I think its time to not always mention me as the angriest one. So what do you say…

Well, now I'm kinda depressed. Thanks, jerk.

Oh, don't be like that, Cite.

Can I call you Cite?

Anywho, we likely have seen just as many episodes as we will see more new episodes. At least that many. And that's a lot of episodes. And the thread probably isn't going to die just because the show ends.

And I still intend on sticking around KYM regardless of what happens to this thread.

@dac

Fine. Clean slate. But like I told Aerostat, I'm not much of a hugger. If Imma hugging, then it's because I want to annoy someone.

I show affection by posting pictures of Octavia.

@Dac

Well I don't regard you as an angry poster now. That was in the past. Citation is our new angry poster

He even called me jerk to top it off.

@Cite

Now I didn't mean to be negative or gloomy in that post. Only looking for people's perception of where we are in the life cycle of the fandom, at least for this particular forum anyway

Fandoms do have life cycles. They come and go and come again.

Verbose's response was pretty much the answer I was looking for.

@Verbose

That's pretty much what I was thinking, I guess I was just waiting for someone else to say it too.

You don't need to cross out the 'NERD' though. I have come to accept my nerdiness as a part of who I am

SURPRISE!
Hey guys, just checkin' in.

It's funny Dac should post that Left 4 Dead poster because that's pretty much been my week. My custom map-makin' is coming along beautifully and I should be finished with the first level in a few days. If any o' yous guys got Left 4 Dead 2 on the PC you can try it out when I'm done. :D

Other then that I've been playing Dungeon Defenders till the wee hours in the morning and suffering massive HHHHHNNNNG attacks from Pumpkin Cake's "nom-nom" voice.

I don't really believe we're at the dying star stage or anything silly like that. We're just at some point where we aren't at the perfect storm anymore. Remember back in the old days where the late night debate club would happen? How the fuck did I find enough free time to do that?

(In fact, after this post I'm going to bed!)

Verbose was gone for a while due to family business over the holidays, I have Uni summer term, Planes and Mercs, Liftoff and my work at a gaming website to contend with, not to mention that huge ass fic post a while back really sucked out my tl;dr. (IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ME BEING ADDICTED TO WORLD OF TANKS! NOTHING AT ALL!)

And well….tempers have been flaring for a while here so I stood back and didn't post that much for while simply to let the flames die down a bit so I can go back to overanalysing a children's card game…I mean a children's television show.

Also, newfoals….newfoals everywhere!

…so I can go back to overanalysing a children’s card game

We can arrange for that too. Now how is it that Seto summoned multiple monsters in one turn? I thought that was against the rules?

But yes, I do remember the good ol' days of the late night debate club…what on earth happened to that?

BSoD said:

Motherbucking school happened to it.

I was able to stay at summertime pony levels during first term, but then I got a ass load of stuff to do for second. (That didn't mean I did less, I just stayed up later.)

I'm sure the fandom will 'restart' in some respects as the school year ends and summer vacation starts. Then there will be newfags everywhere.

Even if we are a star fusing (not burning!) helium. We still have several elements to go until we hit iron and explode (twice). Then we help to create other stars and then everyone can have ponies.

Verbose wrote:

We're not real, Pyro. Do you think there are really tons of near adult and adult males getting behind My Little Freakin' Pony?

And if we are real, we're probably bad apples. We probably ditched class, smoked reefer in the bathroom, and released chickens labeled 1, 2, and 4 in the hallways. We're probably also minorities too. We probably also don't speak English and want to take your jobs

And we're democrats. F*ckin' democrats…they're not patriotic enough. Or something.

So to get us back on topic (because my original post was there wasn’t that many uploads from new episodes) are we starting to slow down? Are we slipping? Are we not happy with the new shows? What’s the deal people?

I even noticed a lack of discussion about the new episodes.

A few things. I'll try to be somewhat brief.

  • We've had a few tiffs here recently. We can say we're over it, but all of the stuff we rant and rage about hasn't changed. Doesn't the "air" still feel a little heavy on the thread?
  • We have more posters here that like different things. I don't know how many times I've seen that The Simpsons gif. I see when we're mid-discussion. I see it mid-roleplaying. I see it mid-image dump.
  • We're starting to become…friends. I think we used to just be people who were tied together by ponies. Now we're tied by (dare I say it,) ourselves. But we're very different people. It can work out, but friendships are supported by similarities more than differences.
  • There are a lot more people who don't mind confrontation on here. It used to be just CitationNeeded. But dac gets angry, as does Pyro. Heck, even less confrontational posters are starting to call people out on dumb stuff we do. And sometimes we get angry at stuff we shouldn't even bother with.

I think the fandom is changing. Just like we on KYM have become/are becoming friends here, there are probably a lot of other sites where they are becoming friends with each other. We probably all appreciate that more than Pony, honestly. I do, at least.

Discussion? I feel like many of the discussion points we've had have been talked over at length. We've probably already saturated the points we could make on anything pony. We'd need something really interesting to talk about Pony liked we used to.

Images? I still feel like they are out there. Macros are still made, but some of the "just perfect" ones may end up being better than new ones. So you end up seeing older ones?

Art? I've seen this on a few tumblr blogs. It's bothersome, but understandable.

Some artists just get tired of drawing the same thing over and over.

They want to move on to drawing something else. And since the fandom isn't likely growing too much larger than it has now, there aren't a lot of new artists to take their place. I remember reading from one FiM animator saying how she doesn't want to draw ponies forever. She wanted to move on at some point and draw other things. Same with the voice actors, the writers, even the directors, and of course, Lauren Faust has already moved on.

I'll try to tl;dr that:

*The fandom is beginning to focus more on each other than the show. That's also occurring here. And for some, talking about ponies may be getting a little stale. We still love the show, the new episodes, and we love what it is. I'm not going to stop watching it anytime soon. But it's less novel, I think.

Ideological wrote:

I have a question. Why does anonymous get the most attention on Tumblr? Their commands in Woonastuck and Tiara Lost get responses. Their questions get answered. Not to be selfish but I need the attention so my blog can get noticed and become more popular.

  • There are more Anons than users, I guess. Simple statistics.
  • Don't get upset or down about this, Ideo, but you seem to be focusing way too much on becoming popular or becoming noticed. If you're doing something as a hobby and not for a paycheck, then do it regardless of how good you are at it or how famous you become. Seriously, being popular and liked is nice. I won't lie. But I like being liked by the people I care about more.

Is our attention not enough for you, Ideological?

I thought you loved us…

Don't do this, Verbose. Please don't. You're going to make me cry. I love you guys and I appreciate the attention. Things are just slow for my blog. I'm not getting a lot of questions or followers. I just want things to pick up. Please don't make me cry.

Last time I tried to play god, Conor, I ended up getting lectured by the ailens who run this universe. Turns out, they don't like it when people muscle in on their business. As for Verbs, yyou are real. I just can't believe that I'm the only one out there who likes ponies. We are bound by something more than ponies. We are drawn to each other by what divides us. With that, we have formed a close knitted group of allies and comrades. I can only hope it lasts.

Oh right, you guys still have school to go to.

You would be surprised how easy that is to forget when you leave it. You are correct though, this entire forum will pick up during semester breaks. Fortunately I believe we have enough users here (myself included) who don't have academic obligations to worry about and can keep things moving in the meantime.

The debates also heavily depend on new episodes giving us more questions to ask. But nobody has been asking any difficult questions lately in regards to recent episodes.

EG: Didn't anyone bat an eyelash at the fact that Pound Cake achieved flight only a month from birth when canonically ponies can't fly until they finish flight school. Honestly, nobody wanted to debate that? I thought that screwed up everyone's headcanons?

Oh well, I'm going to bed.

PS: I know about nuclear fusion, we say that stars burn their elements as a metaphor. But you know what I meant.

^This. Last week, I was fully capable of staying up until 4 or 5 in the morning in order to get involved with SynchTubes or other conversations. Now that lectures are starting up again, I need to get myself onto a regular sleeping schedule, and that means I should ideally be going to sleep at about 11:30 or 12:00. If you want me to get involved in debates from now on, you'll have to start them at about 5:00pm EST, or else I'll only be able to respond to things the following day.

I'll still be able to get involved on Saturdays though, so please arrange to do things then!

I’m sure the fandom will ‘restart’ in some respects as the school year ends and summer vacation starts. Then there will be newfags everywhere.

I really hope you're right, though I have a feeling that this summer might be disastrous for the fandom. A lot of long-time bronies already suffered through the summer drought last year, and may lose interest completely when it happens again this year. Since the fandom will be quite old by that point, it may not have the same novelty appeal that it had last summer, so I doubt we'll be seeing quite as many new members.

I myself may start losing interest around that point. Last summer I was able to read fanfics to keep myself interested, but I doubt I'll be able to do the same this time around. I hopefully won't be going anywhere though, since as Verbose pointed out, we've reached the point now where we communicate more like friends than bronies on this thread, and I'd hate to lose that.

And now for Algernon's non-daily question of the day!

If you had the power to change one thing in the fandom, what would it be, and why? Note that saying 'get rid of all of the R34 and Grimdark fags' counts as two things, and is extremely unimaginative.

Personally, I'd give EqD an overhaul. Right now it's just a very well organised blog, but I think it should be updated to become a central hub for all things brony. We should still keep the traditional blog style for the front page so that important new content can be featured, but it would be real nice to see some forums and a better way of searching for art, music and fanfics.

Well, it definitely won't be for lack of fics.

I wouldn't change anything about the fandom as a whole. Each place (site or group) could use little improvements here and there, but nothing major.

One things that I think would be helpful would be a good PR campaign of some type. The only bad things about the fandom is misinformation, and it would be nice if we could show people what we are really about.

Lose interest in the fandom? Sounds like a challenge. To that I say: challenge accepted. I'll still be here by next fall. I would never abandon the ponies. Never.

I went through something similar over last summer. After I first got in to the show around the start of July, I was all starry-eyed, etc. But then it waned. Quickly. So by mid-August I could no longer consider myself a real fan, even if I did still like the show. I didn't get back into it until October, when two things happened. First, I was bored one day, so I played on a TF2 pony server for the fist time. Second, I joined this site after months of lurking, and got sucked into started posting here. And since I've come back, I haven't been as gaga as I was before, but I have a deeper understanding of the show and why I (and others) like it.

So to answer the previous question, I'm not scared of losing the fandom – in fact, I consider it inevitable. It's happened to me before and I survived, and I'm sure all of you will too.

I think Thiessen said it was a cello. I recall him stating it in an interview a while back.

Anyway, this:

The guy said it was a cello.
Also, the tuning keys are made of wood. Tuning keys on a bass are made of metal and perpendicular to conventional keys.

Even though Thiessen said it was a cello, I trust this guy more:

He uses fancy mathematics and doesn't afraid of anything.

Octavia Todd wrote:

@Connor: Well for the same argument most people use for the cello: she's small and the cello is big on her. There actually are some 1/2 size and even 1 or 2 3/4 size basses with wooden nobs. It could be one of those.

Not to be rude but all of the ponies are small. Except Celestia and maybe Luna. Also, strength might be an attribute for earth ponies. I mean, look at Applejack.

@Algernon:

Don't deny it. You even said fancy mathematics.

Well yes, that's why I was mentioning the 1/2 and 3/4 size basses. And yes, it is painfully obvious that all ponies are small (My LITTLE pony). Which, thanks to the ponies being small, makes her eligible to play a 1/2 or a 3/4 which have the ability to use wooden nobs, which could make Connors argument invalid.

Again, didn't mean to be rude. There's been some debate on exactly how small they are but luckily nothing has spiralled out of control.
