@Explosive Lasers
I never said she was immortal. I just said that her relation to Luna and Celestia probably means she shares the ability to live longer as well (sort of like the Elves in LOTR; mortal, yet possess the ability to live for ridiculosly long periods of time*).
Which means as well, she's most likely older than any of the generations alive that day, but not nearly as old as Luna or Celestia (i.e. probably a century or two under her wing)

  • yes, I know that Elves CAN become immortal, but that's not the point

Calm yo jimmies Giga…

>mfw all this cute Chrysalis fanart

(She's cute in canon too!)

Dear Princess Celestia,

Sometimes it may feel like you have to be someone you're not in order to be loved. But, once you step out and reveal yourself, it turns out that your true friends will always prefer the real you.

Your faithful student,
Queen Chrysalis

Cadence is Celestia's niece. Prince Blueblood is her nephew. Neither of these two are immortal, or old enough to have been Luna's children. So, it's safe to assume Celestia has many cousins or other relatives.

It is likely they were alicorns, as well, back in time. But, due to breeding with other races, not all of them are, currently. So, while cases like Cadence remain, there are not many alicorns.

She's still related to royalty, so she is technically a princess. And since she doesn't serve on a council, rule over any land (as far as we have seen), or have any other political duties, she can't be a Chancellor, Duchess, Countess, etc.

So, she's just loosely related to Celestia and Luna, and just so happens to be an alicorn.

And before you call BS, on account of her being a foal-sitter and princess, there have been accounts of princesses having mundane jobs. Such as being school teachers and all that.

Edit: @Unkown: There is nothing stating all alicorns are immortal. Luna and Celestia are immortal because A)The Elements of Harmony and B)they're demigods. Cadence has no relation to the Elements and isn't a god, so she is just a mortal alicorn.

I'm sure many of you have seen this.

I agree that Cadence is likely just as much a princess as Blueblood is a prince. Basically she's just a very distant relative. As to her being an alicorn, it was seemingly some crazy corporate-level decision to make her more marketable. I don't think it makes a whole lot of sense, to be honest.

Also, there's no reason Celestia's protege couldn't be watched over on occasion by Celestia's niece. They're all pretty casual about that stuff, usually.

@Opspe:

(Cadance isn't a word. Cadence is the correct spelling, but people suck at stuff, so it got around that it was Cadance.)

I think your points are good, but then comes the explanation for how they're immortal. I mean, Luna was on the moon long enough to be COMPLETELY forgotten. As in, several generations. So, there's obviously no lies when it comes to their immortality. Now, since Cadence seems to be aging as quickly as Twilight, she is obviously a mortal (this goes to Unkown, too, as it shows that she ages and matures just as quickly, so most likely has a normal lifespawn).

So, Celestia and Luna are, to some extent, divine beings. I'm of the opinion they're just demigods, as is Discord. But, they're still strong enough, and demigods are rare enough, that they're considered 'gods' by the common pony.

Kind of like Hercules, in a sense.

@Milennial: Twilight was a blank-flank when Cadence was watching her, I believe.

She didn't become Celestia's pupil until she earned her mark. However, she was still studying to enter the academy beforehand, so that explains the books in the BBBFF song.

Furthermore, Faust's word is no longer law, as it was in the first season. I'm not saying it to be rude, but it's entirely reasonable to see another alicorn, if you think of them as being a fourth race, way back when. I find it very easy to believe there was a large family of alicorns, one which Luna and Celestia belonged to, that slowly started to wear out as they branched into the other races. Now, they're rare enough to be an oddity, but not unheard of.

Edit: Damn my doublepost.

Actually, I think Cadance is her official name. EqD said so in their episode followup. Personally, I'm fine with either spelling. I must admit that Cadence looks nicer, but I'm gonna stick with Cadance, just because EqD said so.

Her aging at the same rate as Twilight might not mean that she has the same lifespan as her. Immortal beings in fiction often live as children for the regular amount of time, but spend longer as adults.

@Explosive

I was merely pointing out that her being an alicorn didn't follow the original intent, so it's not surprising that the whole thing's left some of us scratching our heads about it.

If she is basically an alicorn with a greatly thinned bloodline, I guess that might explain why her magic is relatively weak magic. Also, I think Algernon is probably correct in that they grow up at a normal pace, but then stop aging after reaching maturity. If that is the case for Cadence, it's gonna be sort of tragic once S. Armor dies.

Now that I'm thinking about it, maybe her weak magic is actually simply due to the fact that she's so young?

I asked Twilight, but all she said was:

Considering Cadence is Celestia's niece, and an alicorn, that means she most likely has a ridiculous lifespan and ages slower than most
And Celestia, despite being over a thousand years old, still looks pretty fresh. Cadence looks younger too, meaning she's a couple hundred years old

Wait….

IF CADENCE IS A COUPLE HUNDRED YEARS OLD, AND SHINING ARMOR IS PROBABLY A FEW YEARS OLDER THAN TWILIGHT SPARKLE…
DOESN'T THAT MAKE CADENCE A COUGAR?

My mind, you've blown it.

@Random Lasers
Well, if you think about it, Arwen's father (Elrond) was over 6000 years old, according to the books. And he looked about 40.
So maybe aging goes along those lines. Whether she was cougar or not at time of marriage, we can probably assume she'll be looking a lot better than Shining Armor in the future…

@X and cute Chrysalis
This pretty much seals the cute deal for me:

She's not a monster. Maybe a bit too extreme when it comes to survival tactics, but not a monster. She's still cuddly, even with the holes and crooked horn. She just needs a little love….

@X-singular
I think there's probably a happy medium between cute and revolting that she treads quite well. There's room for both creepy-Chrysalis and cute-Chrysalis in this fandom! :D

There is, however, no room for Molestia-Chrysalis.

Also, @Pyro: Normally I would call shenanigans on the whole "tragic misunderstood villain" angle, but it does kinda work for Chrysalis in a Sarah Karrigan kind of way. So long as it's used as a motivation rather then a handicap, and so long as she's still a villain.

I think it would happen weather anyone likes it or not, possible just based on the fact she feeds off of love, which the internet usually takes to the most sick extent…. But who knows, it might stick, it might not.

On the topic of Alicorns being goddesses blahblahblah.
My thoughts are that Celestia and Luna are goddesses, and they take the form of ponies because that is the race they represent. Therefore, they are not ponies, but rather pony shaped. Other species on the planet, be they gryphons, dragons, pterodactyls, may have their own gods or goddesses. The reason Cadance is an alicorn is because Celestia and Luna saw fit that being a ruler she should be, so while Cadance is an alicorn, she does not possess infinite life or god-level power.
Also Chrysalis is cute.

@Unkown: Regardless of how quickly she ages through childhood, it's clear she is not a couple hundred years old. And there is no further evidence supporting her having a longer life.

After all, she was a teenager when Twilight was a filly, just as Shining Armor is. She is an adult when Twilight is a young adult, and Shining Armor is an adult, as well.

So, it's safe to assume Shining Armor and Cadence are the same age, regardless of how long Cadence will live. Which, until further evidence can be seen, is as long as any other pony.

Only way if a Alicorn can be a god or goddess if they move a giant object that are billions or trillions their size, like the sun or the moon. If they can do that, they are in fact a god or goddess. (With only their own magic ofcourse).

Technically, it's easily inferred that they feed off the emotions of others, love is simply one of the more powerful (and likely addicting) ones. They're socio-parasitic creatures (if that's even a word) that infiltrate groups of people and slowly drain them of their life force… you know at this point it's hard to tell where the speculation ends and the fanon begins. >.>

But I digress, I don't think we need two Molestia's running around.

@Connor:

That was made a few weeks before the episodes, so it isn't as rock-steady as anything we can come up with now.

We're not decrying her, or anything, we're simply debating if she is immortal, how she is an alicorn, etc.

We're not ponibooru/ponychan, after all. We don't have to start shitstorms, flamewars, debates, and big deals out of our head canons being bumped.

Best GET ever.

The latest (and greatest) in John Joseco's "Morning Ponies" series.

Beautiful.

See, this is one of the advantages of having a canon ship. All the love with none of the shame.

Prepared to be boarded.

No ship is safe from Rainbow Dash. She has been shipped with everything including the kitchen sink.

lol

I think it's great that Joseco is doing all this art of the newlyweds, because when he eventually gets to Chrysalis, it is going to be oh so satisfying.

Hey guys. Just tossing my two cents on the recent topics.

@Top 5 Songs

1 – This Day Aria
2 – Smile Smile Smile
3 – Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000
4 – Winter Wrap Up
5 – Becoming Popular

Yeah, it's no big surprise (for me at least) that most of them come from S2, since the producers have really outdone themselves on it, both on song and episodes quality.

Hoping now that S3 be even better /)^3^(\

@Vinyls' Eyes

I couldn't give two bucks about this being an issue of some sort. Seriously, how many things who were once spread by the fandom in a way that was almost turned into Word of God by most of us only to be in a new episode broken to pieces? Vinyls' eyes are jst one of those things.

And for anyone out there making a big deal out of it, I once more quote: IT'S A BLOODY CARTOON MADE BY HASBRO. THEY DECIDE WHAT DO OR NOT WITH IT. SO IF THEIR WORD OF GOD SAYS HER EYES ARE PURPLE/MAGENTA/WHATEVER AND NOT RED, SO BUCKING BE IT AND PLEASE DEAL WITH IT!!!

@Alicorns Royalty

I say the only way for us to truly uncover the truth about the Alicorns secret is for us to somehow see the whole Royal Family. I for one was pretty much dissapointed when they didn't come up with an explanation for Alicorns on the Hearth Warm Eve episode. But as opspe pointed out, they must have crossed with other types of ponies to have members like Blueblood, and It'd be interresting to see more Alicorn/Non Alicorns couples around (though I'm quite sure they would have attended the wedding)

But what bugs me is knowing if Cadence really is just as immortal as Celestia or Luna. She was seen younger on Twilight's flashback, yes. So it means that not all Alicorns can live forever? That I'm trying to figur.

Also: From the Brony Community, to the whole FiM staff:

THANK YOU ALL!

Seeing it without Sandvich ?!
One of my friends decided to send me the sandvichless pic among AJ pics while I was playing. He thinks I'm into that stuff so he sends it everyday. I have him in my class so it's hell.

Speaking of friends, one of them convinced (or forced) me to make a tumblr. Needless to say it might be made during the weekend or tomorrow.
I just need to know more stuff about it and I'll make one.

Have a pic of my wife.
