THIS IS NOW A SPIDERMAN THREAD!
@Dr. Coolface
;D
My final thought on Cadence (yes, Cadence ಠ_ಠ) for the night is that I think I'm sticking with my earlier idea: because of her youth, her power has yet to develop into what Luna and Celestia possess. If those two have been around for thousands of years, perhaps that is the true reason for their massive abilities, and Cadence bears the same potential. If I'm right, this would also jive with the idea that she probably is just as immortal as them. She ages the same speed as anypony until full maturity, and then that's it. Tough break Mr. Armor!
You know, if Chrysalis and the changelings was in our world. She wouldn't need to shape-shift to feed on love.
I mean, to the world of MLP, she and her minions must be hideous as fuck but here, they're pretty cute and I'm pretty some of us want to cuddle a changeling.
Guys, guys, it's simple.
Remember that Celestia toy that was released WAYY back in 2010?
Yeah, the pink one. Hasbro just didn't get it quite right, did they?
And now look at Cadance.
Notice anything? Nothing like taking the old pink Celestias and remaking them into Cadance, right?
@Vinyls’ Eyes
I couldn’t give two bucks about this being an issue of some sort. Seriously, how many things who were once spread by the fandom in a way that was almost turned into Word of God by most of us only to be in a new episode broken to pieces? Vinyls’ eyes are jst one of those things.
And for anyone out there making a big deal out of it, I once more quote: IT’S A BLOODY CARTOON MADE BY HASBRO. THEY DECIDE WHAT DO OR NOT WITH IT. SO IF THEIR WORD OF GOD SAYS HER EYES ARE PURPLE/MAGENTA/WHATEVER AND NOT RED, SO BUCKING BE IT AND PLEASE DEAL WITH IT!!!
Amen, Doc Greg.

Thank you, I read through two whole pages just dying to say that.
It shouldn't be an argument now. The case is closed. End of story.
The only thing I have the problem with are the people who apparently do not know what magenta looks like. Look it up and do the math
Pop quiz: what is Rainbow Dashes eye color?
If your answer was Magenta, congratulations you now know Vinyl Scratches Eye color.
I will also accept Red-violet as an answer
@Blue Screen
Aaaaand who exactly is arguing against that? I think everyone's got it by now bro.
Nobody in this thread. You guys were done with it a page ago, but after seeing the discussion on the last few pages, I sort of built up tension as I read up to here. I just had to get it off my chest
Some other forums are still arguing it you see. With people squinting at this tiny corner of the episode trying to determine if that color is red or purple. I find that slightly frustrating so I vented about it here.
That RD/Vinyl comparison was really intended for "those people", even though they wont see it
Anyhoo, back to Cadence discussion I suppose…
I was thinking earlier that their eyes looked rather similar. Now that you've got them side by side, they look pretty near identical on my screen. Interesting. Just to be a parasprite, I'm gonna say they look cooler on the DJ than Dash…
I'm okay with that
But just to be pedantic I'm also going to say that RD and Vinyl don't have perfectly identical eye colors, give or take any inaccuracies in the examples I used
But they are pretty damn close. RD is a better comparison than Twilight
Indeed. I was just using Twi to show that they weren't straight up purple. But then, it should really only matter to artists I suppose, which unfortunately I'm not (at least, not a very good one).
Y'know… If Scootaloo was a better singer, the CMC Theme would probably be one of the greatest songs ever.
I mean, listen to this shit!

Also tiem for Rarity headcanon:
Does anyone else think that Rarity could be of French descent?
She loves fancy things, acts extremely hoity-toity, her first name easily translates into French Rarity= Rarite and her sister's last name translates to "beautiful" in French.
@badsitrep
Doesn't seem like much of a stretch, does it? It's funny that the show has at least once mentioned something as being "French".
If Rarity's grandparents on at least one side were fancy French ponies, that would provide a somewhat more reasonable answer to where she got her fabulousness. Her parents are certainly anything but hoity-toity.
I'm not coming back, but I just thought you guys might like to know that Hasbro's stocks are way down. I don't have any sauce, but I saw it on some business channel a couple days ago.

Her accent is English.

Also, as for the Vinyl thing (which apparently you guys were just discussing), I think the fact the color is so close is because Studio B wanted to give the fandom another shout out, but after what happened with Derpy they're being a bit more careful with it. Even something as inconsequential as eye color has the potential to bite them in the ass. Again.

@MilleniaDan
Well everyone here is in agreement that Rarity's mom most likely comes from the pony equivalent of New Jersey.
Then what about her father?
Does anyone have guesses about where he's from?
Page get for marshmallow discussion.

@badsitrep
See, he was born into an extremely high-class society in either Canterlot or Manehattan, but early in his life he discovered a passion for sports. His family didn't approve, so he ran away from home, eventually finding himself in Baltimare, where he found temporary residence and resumed his school attendance. He earned his Cutie Mark in Hoofball, and eventually became a regional mvp in the sport. By this point, he had completely assimilated the mannerisms of his friends and colleagues, and seemed a true native Baltimarean. In his travels as a professional athlete, he eventually met his special somepony and got married. After having their first foal, Rarity, he decided it was time to patch things up between him and his parents. Having made smart financial decisions in his career, he was able to retire early, and traveled with his family back to Manehattan. However, he discovered that his parents had actually moved to a rural town close to the Canterlot for retirement from their textile business. Thus, his search brought him to Ponyville, where he finally was reunited with his mother and father. The rest is history!

Actually, her accent is trans Atlantic like many actresses from the golden age of Hollywood. Anyways, she could still be French descent regardless of her nationality or accent.
@ badsitrep
I never really thought of that, but since you mention it, I guess she could be French descent. That's my headcanon now.
@CitationNeeded
It is nice to see you on the thread again even if your stay is short.
@Subway
I would like a 5 dollar foot long to go please.
@Vynl's Eyes
Some idiot will always complain about something you just have to tune them out and enjoy what is given especial when it is very close. I personally found red to be a bit strong for here color scheme so I have no problems with it, purple would have been to dull so I am happy they stuck with magenta.
@Rarity's nationality:
What is this France you speak of? I question the legitimacy of its existence, seeing as it has no puns on pony anatomy or customs within it. I further question your sanity in mentioning such a fictional location when analyzing the origins of a pony as fabulous as Rarity.
what race Rarity is ehh? Well…i'm not entirely sure about this one so id have to say she's French.
@Rarity's Nationality
Also, Invader Zim nostalgia.
So, since Cadence and Shining Armor not only beat Chrysalis, but all the changelings, AT THE SAME TIME, does that make them the most powerful beings in existence?
I mean, Celestia was defeated by Chrysalis, because of the power the Queen got from SA's and Cadence's love. Also, on my own hunch, she was feeding on Celestia's love for her subjects, as well.
But, despite that, Cadence and Shining Armor managed to team up to do something that is Elements-grade amazing, WITHOUT the Elements. If the Mane Six could pull that off without the Elements, they STILL wouldn't be as powerful as the newly-weds, because there are three times as many of them.
So, all things considered, Shining Armor and Cadence are the strongest things currently alive. Far stronger than Chrysalis, even with her army at her back.
My two cents on the Rarity Discussion…
They don't live on the same planet as us, and its already been established (though with a few shoutouts to real-world locations), that their world is not in a similar continent or similar nation names. As far as we know, Equestria only goes so far. So I doubt there is a France, let alone any region that follows their culture even to a certain degree.
Now, I said there were references (Manehattan, Appleloosa, Saddle Arabia, etc.), but we can assume that those locations are just invented due to the puns we can make out of them related to equines.
France, on the other hand…
You can't really make anything out of that.
In short, there is probably never going to be an answer to her ancestory that points to anywhere like France, but her mannerisms and maybe her interest in fashion is modeled after somewhere from Europe.
@Explosive Lasers…
One revolution fic coming up!
I went checking through the edit history of Humans on Wikipedia, and I found this:
[photo:291301]
I was wondering why there were no Brony submissions to this thread, and then I thought; why don't I just ask?
I thought the above picture would be a good submission, but I thought that if there was anyone here who really cares, they could probably do better.
Well, that's all.
So I herd u liek Chrysalis…
The reason why I said French is because we really don't know if there is a canon pony version of France.
Some say Fancee and others say Prance but the staff have made no canon "Pony-France."
And moar headcanon:
If Rarity could be of "pony French" ancestry, is it possible her dad is Pony-Quebecois?
He's obviously involved in football, a typically North American sport; his wife is from a northern area, that in reality is only a state away from Quebec; and it is widely accepted that Quebec is an area of French descent.

I think that may only be a situational and oddly specific kind of powerful though. I doubt they'd be able to use it outside of a situation like that.
Celestia could rip of might beam of magic at a whim (for any reason), and the Elements can be used as long as the wielders are together and are in-touch with their respective and defining personality traits.
Â
That love blast thing that Cadance (I'm sticking with that spelling,) and Shining Armor made seems to only be good for blowing back creatures with certain intents.
It'd be like saying I can crack a walnut with my glutes. It's only good if your nutcracker isn't working or you don't have any other means by which to crack a nut. A lot of power, but you can only use it in one, specific situation.
No, the glute/nut thing was a good example, so shut up.

I don't doubt what you saw, but Nasdaq seems to have them as doing pretty well. I don't get all of the terminology, but everything seems to say "Good" or "OK." But maybe they're underperforming still. I know the show said it for some reason or they expect to fall off the map at some point.
Even if that was the case, then I'd think they'd want to hold on to the cartoon (if not The Hub.) Perhaps they could air it on a different channel, make that channel pay to have the rights to air it, and still make money from the toy sales. The original My Little Pony shows of the past didn't have The Hub, I don't think, but they had new episodes. Surely, the show could stand on it's own without The Hub. I know it would.
Â
Hasbro would no longer have to keep The Hub above water, they'd still make money from what is at least a moderately successful show (even outside of the Internet,) and I'm almost positive that any children's programming channel would easily nix one of their current show slots to get a hold of Friendship is Magic.
Â
Â
But who knows? Maybe FiM isn't doing as well in actually as we make it out to be. I think any poor outlook stems from something else though, and FiM is a/the gem out of all of the mess.
Enough words.
OH SHIT SON TONY KORNHEISER JUST REFERENCED MY LITTLE PONY ON AIR. LIKE JUST A MINUTE AGO PONIES WERE JUST ON SPORTSCENETER IA CME OH MY PANTS.

Well, Twilight mentioned that pipsqueak came from England. Also, applebloom was speaking French.
We can be sure Rarity's not from Equestria.
As it's obvious all the ponies are from our planet.
@Brucker
I avoided making MLP submissions for login for 2 reasons.
But that of course doesn't mean you shouldn't. That's a good image.
One thing though, the contest ends tomorrow. I can still make one, but I'll be a bit late.
@Verbose: Discovered the meaning of that post.
You wanted to tell us you could crush nuts with your ass.
Kinky.
@Dac: Twilight said he was from Hoofingham, I believe. Not England.
But Hoofingham is a pun for an English city.
Personally, I do not wonder Rarity's nationality as in ancestory, but the entire Pony Nobility.
I mean, there is a central ruler (Celestia, in this case), but what makes these particular ponies noble or regal?
I can probably use the Holy Roman Empire as an example. In theory, the empire made up Germany, Bohemia, and Austria, with an Emperor in either Germany or Prague in Bohemia. However, as years passed, the empire slowly became more of a theory rather than reality, as many German principalities fought each other for domination.
Also, I can use Japan: All clans were loyal to the emperor (whose descendency has been unbroken for over a thousand years), but they all wanted the position of Shogun, the next-best thing. So, though technically the emperor was their leader, he was only so in theory, and in reality, the shogun is who really ruled the land.
Lastly, I can use the Roman Empire. Patrician families had a lot of power: owning land, towns, trade, enterpises. But they were all loyal to the Senate/Emperor, to a certain degree. They frequently squablled amongst themselves in getting positions in the Senate or in the Imperial Era, the throne itself. Julius Caesar's story is one of those, getting himself (a patrician), into the position of ruler of Rome, and having to go through his also-patrician rivals (Pompey and Crassus) for dominance.
In many countries, nobility came to be from ancient heritage, and if not , killed their superiors and and took power in their country. So, could the nobility of Equestria, be in fact, descendent (and may still be), a series of civil war and violence?
Of course, someone such as Celestia would probably never be too kind onto war, but if there was a time in her reign where the situation was out of her hands, then is that the origin of the nobles?…
@Verbose and everyone else…
Imagine this: Cartoon Network getting rid of one of their live-action shows for FIM, or Nickelodeon..

Her nationality could possible French but I think she just speaks that way because of her trade, fashion is her passion.
Saved.
@Rarity's nationality
Obviously, France or England don't exist in Equestria. If they did, they would have some sort of pony pun, like Explosives pointed out. I just thought she lived in Canterlot long enough to pick up an accent, and then moved to Ponyville later. As for why, I don't know. Maybe business or something. I'm half-willing to take Simply Rarity's explanation (thank you Verbs), but just because I like tragedy.
@Vinyl's eyes
I was never really attached to Vinyl having red eyes, I always pictured her with her goggles, so I really don't care. And like Cite pointed out, it'd be horrible if another attempt at fan service went horribly wrong (she does have white fur, adding red eyes might bring albino problems or something). Magenta is a nice compromise.
Any theories on how the Season 3 intro is going to play out? Two-parter (most likely)? New characters? New villain? John DeLancie? Cadence and Armor's honeymoon? New location? No villain at all, just hilarity? Discuss.
Well everyone here is in agreement that Rarity’s mom most likely comes from the pony equivalent of New Jersey.
Speaking of New Jersey, why does everyone on this site have such negative opinions of it? In the survey a while back, half the people answered "scum of the Earth" for it. What'd we ever do to you?
@Muffinator.
All three points
-Rarity's nationality.
Exactly. You would've had a pony-pun name. I think if their's any explanation, its her association with upper-class nobility (though see above post for my thoughts on pony-nobility).
-Vinyl's Eyes
I can honestly say that Vinyl's eyes are fantastic the way they are. They are close enough to fanon depictions, and works better with her character design.
-Season 3
I would hope that it would be new. In shows like this (where it is a chronology), events from previous episodes don't really come up early in a season, unless there is a deliberate cliffhanger (like Who Shot Mr. Burns? in the Simpsons). Otherwise, new stories are better to work with, to keep one watching until they either decide to go back to a previous idea or move on with new ones.
So I'd say we'll see Cadance and Shining Armor sometime, but not in a Season opener.
EDIT-
Well, Rarity's obviously Russian:

Not sure if Discord was the reason why Chrysalis and her people are so desperate for food.
I think that depressing wasteland of a home the Changelings hail from might be part of the reason for their hunger. Compared to the rest of the areas in the show, that piece of land is dead; hardly any variation in color (even the Everfree Forest has more color than their land), and completely isolated.
I can imagine how hard it would be for anything to show love in that land. It doesn't help that the Changelings are Body Horror all over, so unless they disguise themselves as something else, and travel far from home, they would never get love to feed on.
On that thought, I bet Our Dear Queen Chrysalis would have been much kinder and less greedy if she had a happier place to live in. Exposure to Equestria would probably feed her and her subjects well enough to thrive.
Not to mention the massive torrent of love she would be getting from her servants in another realm who gladly shower her with affection. That alone could keep her satiated for a good long while.
