Unpopular Opinions Thread V.2

I'm not saying what I hope will happen, I'm saying what is heavily likely to happen.

Rick Perry is being floated as the new Secretary of Energy, replacing a nuclear physicist and (before that) a Nobel Peace Prize Winner, both of whom were appointed by Obama.

Furthermore, we have Rex Tillerson, CEO of Exxon Mobil, as Secretary of State.

"muh both sides" is rapidly becoming tiresome. That being said, my sentiment is not so much an unpopular opinion IRL as it is on sites with a strong 4chan presence.

Not sure if this counts as an opinion, per se, but I felt I had to say it.

I don't understand envy. It's not an emotion I've ever felt at any point. I'm not even entirely convinced it's real. It's something I've just heard about, but never actually seen.

I believe prisoners should be given the option to die if they are convicted of a very serious offence like Murder or rape. What's the point of wasting so many resources on locking people away then letting them out again like nothing ever happened?

A lot of these people (even those that never committed violent offences) end up coming back to a world that doesn't want them and is afraid of them. No one will employ you and some countries even prevent you from entering them once you have a certain type of criminal record.

I know it's cathartic to imagine a bad person suffering in prison for causing so much pain to others (e.g. rapists and pedophiles getting raped back)and I fantasize about evil people crying and grovelling begging for forgiveness to, but we can't apply such animosity to a modern justice system without becoming bad people ourselves.

Some would argue death is an escape from justice but personally I see justice as being about protection and order not punishment that must be supported with the tax payers money. Many prisons are on overload and lack proper support with some inmates not getting medical attention and mental health care. Keeping these people alive by force is in my opinion, an extra burden on society and the inmates..

It's self righteous to think this, I know, but I believe no matter how bad, or far-gone someone is, they should still be treated as a human being. What I'm about to say is paradoxical, but I think the greatest kindness to these people, in a world that won't want them, and a justice system that is struggling to support them, is give them the option to "leave" permanently.

Execution sounds brutal but that's a release on resources, less tax payer money, and less suffering for prisoners.

One big draw back I think they'd be however is the lack of closure for victims; your abuser is dead instead of being punished. That's painful and being someone who was a victim of assault (beaten up) in broad daylight and never got justice even after reporting less than an hour later, knowing your attackers are free men in your own city, I know all too much about that dread and hatred, that lack of closure and dark cloud hanging over you.

But I learned that if your peace of mind rests on what happens to other people or what they do instead of yourself, then people will always have power over you and even if you get closure through their imprisonment, your mind will still be vulnerable to the actions of others and never truly be your own. This is all my silly opinion, and I know it's easier said than done but it has to be done if one can truly be free.

Also i believe all people who are sane adults should be given a legal right to die. You cannot live for other people and how much value your life has should depend on the person not even their family. People should in turn, respect people's right to die. I don't mean encourage suicide (LORD NO!! If you've seen my posts on vent thread please understand I'm struggling with mental health and don't want to die I just want to stop hurting) but tell people that their life is their life alone and respect WHATEVER decision they make as long as other people's personal freedoms are not encroached upon.

December Edition (Don't expect January Edition):

- The anime community from KYM confused me. It's simple enough for me to see an user likes that Japanese media or not, but it's pretty difficult for me to see the anime community from KYM likes it or not. For example, if I go to image A, it's mostly filled with positive comments. But if I go to image B from the same anime/manga, it's mostly filled with negative comments. There are some stuff that is pretty consistent (like loving KLK and hating SAO), but my point still stands. And I probably didn't explain it well.

- I tired of people talking about the sudden change of Gengar's ability. Most of the time, it leans toward to the negative side. And they will talk the same stuff over and over again. Besides, there is more stuff to worry about.

This is going to be a really unpopular opinion, but here goes anyway:
While I loved every minute of JJBA Stardust Crusaders, I can't really bring myself to like Part 4 as much, to be honest. There are a few problems I have with it, but the biggest flaw for me is that the pacing of the stop-and-go storyline is complete bullsh*t, so much so that I stopped caring about the main plot.
Every time Kira is not present in an episode, it makes it harder to even want to follow the plot of the day. Without him and his antics, it just becomes boring. Even worse, at some points in the story there's exposition dumps as big as the Titanic, and characters start blabbing for hours on end AND repeating themselves ad nauseum. Also, some of the characters' decisions are borderline stupid and questionable at times, for no reason other than for something to happen. And the show did that so much that it became obnoxious as hell. I know some people have said that the characters' actions and thoughts are believable and realistic, but I don't think so at all.
I know Part 3 has also been guilty of this, but they at least stuck to the plot somewhat. It also didn't have such a slow start to get to the meat and potatoes, the very first episode of SC had the entire plot explained (of what little plot there was, but still).
While there have been some really great Stand users this season (and some of the best characters, like Mr I-just-want-to-live-a-quiet-life), it didn't need to be as stretched out. The bow-and-arrow arc definitely overstayed its welcome.
And no, before you ask, I didn't read the manga.

Rogue one was so boring and uninspired that i almost slept in the cinema. The Story is pretty generic and you know the outcome when you already watched the original trilogy.Characters are bland as paper and i coulnd't remember any character in the movie except the blind chinese guy and only the action scenes were memorable.

The returning characters are so distracting and come out of nowhere, also the fanservice was so obvious.I can only recommend the Action scenes and the last third of the movie, only there in my opinion does it start to be good

To me stuff like Axiom Verge and Freedom Planet are much better examples of "fan games" than AM2R and Sonic fan games as the people behind these games, while making their inspirations clear, still made their own creations they could sell and become successful with.

Before I say it (in fact, I don't know if this could really count as an unpopular opinion unless it extends to more than just YT comments), I will admit I haven't seen much of Berserk 2016 except for a few episodes, that said, I can admit that while it was bad, I don't feel like it was the worst thing to exist. While it is true they cut off certain arcs like Guts fighting against Rosine or the Count to make room for the Conviction arc with Mozgus, along with the clang swords and use of CGI, I can admit the episodes I seen gave me some entertainment. I also feel comparing it to the 90's anime only works in terms of how it's animated. In terms of story arcs, I feel there isn't much comparison outside how much filler is used along with the fact that one was pre-eclipse, the other was post-eclipse.

- Reaction videos are cool.
- Freemium games can be good. Plants vs Zombies 2 is one of my all time favorite games.
- All of the Jurassic Park sequels are good in one way or another, maybe even as good as the first.
- The weirdness of the Xenomorphs and the Newborn in Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection redeemed both movies for me.
- I'll probably talk about this more in the vent thread, but I'm starting to notice that I'm absurdly forgiving of issues with movies, video games, and other forms of entertainment. It hurts to see a lot of the things I like that I've listed here get torn apart on a regular basis.

I legitimately don't get why straight guys like lesbians. I would assume an absolute majority of lesbians just look really unattractive from a straight guy's perspective.

I've leaned something this year: I'm a monster. I don't care when celebrities die. It doesn't matter if they wrote a nice song decades ago or played a popular character. I just can't personalize it any further than feeling a little down for a minute, then getting on with my day. For instance, when Carrie Fisher died, everyone around me was sobbing and carrying on, but my only reaction was, "She snorted coke for decades. No shit her heart gave out at 60."

Though pro-GGers may deny it, Gamergate was infiltrated by the alt-right. You can also say the same for r/kotakuinaction and KYM back when Gamergate was at its height. Heck, regarding KYM, I believe the community's very anti-SJW views left it susceptible to the alt-right, allowing the alt-right to influence them, spreading their bullshit and racist beliefs. I can;t help but wonder if KYM has been showing any genuinely racist right-wing beliefs. I sound like some paranoid conspiracy fucknut, but I dunno how better to describe it.
I think Breitbart Simpson provided a good explanation with what I am trying to say, and I agree with him. Speaking of which…
I can't help but feel that Trump will be worse than KYM thinks.

Getting Trump elected to stop SJWs is a pretty good example of cutting off the nose to spite the face. Hey, even if Trump fills his cabinet with a bunch of greedy corrupt billionares who will fuck us over for profit, at least we stopped the SJW/feminazi menace, right? I could just be overreacting, but Trump's cabinet is honestly scary.

I feel like SJWs and radical feminists are the boogeymen of the alt-right, just like how communists are used as boogeymen by conservatives

I think any site that has a wide range of political views is liable to have people from every part of the spectrum counted among its posters.

Every site like reddit or kym has been "infiltrated" by the alt-right in the same way that they've been infiltrated by moderates. This site is pretty varied politically.

And on the topic of the alt-right specifically: I think people have always been this way, they've just been vocalizing more with the "war on p.c." that's been going on for a couple years now. Less scared to voice opinions that were seen as crazy.

So in a sense, they've been here all along.

Back on thread topic:

I don't think Rogue One was good. Well, the whole battle sequence train in the latter half of film was pretty great. Everything else, however…Dialogue was extremely cheesy or repeated a lot (Rebellions are built on Hope, I am one with the force), acting was pretty iffy for some of the actors, and I didn't care at all about any of the named characters.

Some random squad leader going down later in the movie got more of an emotional rise out of me than anything else.

Overall it was more enjoyable for me than The Force Awakens, if only because of the whole set of battle scenes that capped off the movie.

- Reki Kawahara by now is probably my favourite author, before it was Jeff Kinney (because of the 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' series back in Primary School), I say this because I enjoy his style of writing and that the premises of the stories are relevant to my interests. Also it's been a while since I've had fun or felt excitement reading a book, and his writing has improved greatly since Aincrad which now really shows in Alicization (and maybe his new series 'The Isolator')
- Kirito is most definitely my favourite anime protagonist at this point in time because of how much of an enjoyable character I seem to find him as.

- I guess Re:Zero was okay/fairly interesting but I didn't quite get much of what the hype for it was really, though when I think about this I kinda wish Grimgar could of had this kind of popularity when it aired then, even though I too was also too hard on the show due to the rate the story progressed at.
- Teen Titans Go! to me isn't as bad as people say it is on the internet or in general, I find it quite hilarious at times.

-Trump's okay. It's nice to have a white person president again.
-The USA is a white people country.
-I'm leery around black people. I'm black people.

and worst of all

-Justin Beiber's music is very nice.

I don't like to listen to it though, but as someone who makes music, people saying that his music is bad always feels like a…
stupid millenials' bandwagon
faux-self-awareness
lie,
i guess are the words? I can't shake the try-hard wigger cringe kid impression people have painted them with when I listen to his stuff, so it's hard for me to get into

Imma tell you envy is fuckin real and if you have something to be envied, and you have your eyes open or a good buddy who can do that for you, you've felt it since you were a child. I sure did. Some crazy ass stuff when you think about it.

Normal people don't always get envied much, except by the pathetic or horribly disenfranchised. People with a goldmine in their minds do, and that light attracts snakes and vultures who want to snuff out, steal or manipulate it.

People aren't movie villains, so they aren't obvious with it with other people. So It takes some good people experience to tell if someone's envious, or else you won't catch it.

Nowadays, Hbomberguy, Lily Peet, and MrBTongue are my favourite Youtubers when to comes to critiquing media such as gaming and film.

(Yes, the former two are raging Social Justice Mages, but that's not the only element. There's a lot of honesty and general biting criticism of tropes & fandoms, even when it doesn't relate to politics. Even if SJ isn't your cup of tea, you may find a lot of their perspectives refreshing in terms of how to write good stories, and insert themes in fiction. I personally do, as an aspiring writer.)

Speaking as someone who loves Nintendo games but abhors their marketing and company practices, I don't for one second buy the argument that "gameplay comes before story". There is nothing stopping a game from having both a well-developed plot and engaging gameplay outside of a developer's ineptitude.

This false dichotomy exists because a lot of criticism is levelled at 'cinematic' games – games with hours of cutscenes but little playing time; interactive movies, essentially. But 'interactive movies' and 'games with no storyline' are NOT the only two options.

(The next part is what could be considered an 'unpopular' opinion)

I honestly think that gamers shun critical analysis. There's this crab mentality where someone (possibly with a humanities' background) gets shut down because their interpretations or suggestions are thought of as 'pretentious'. This is despite the fact that someone with said background is likely the one with the most knowledge of what makes for a good storyline.

I'm taking the Hbomberguy route when it comes to this: DON'T shoot down the person who might be pretentious. Feel free to think deeply about things you care about.

It's possible that what they're saying is bullshit, but it also might not be.

The following is paraphrased from Hbomb's latest video:

BE a critic yourself.
ENCOURAGE a level of thought deeper than what's on the surface.
SUPPORT the critics who spend hours wading through complete garbage – and eat garbage food – so you don't have to.

You may miss the mark often, but you may also reach a new level of understanding that helps game criticism. This is how the medium evolves, and stops being mocked as simply 'commercial' or 'for manchildren'.

Yes this may mean giving the 'snooty arts student' a voice, but…oh well? Reading literature is how you get to know tropes in the first place.

I unironically love Lockstin's Pokemon Reset Theory.

Don't get me wrong: the thumbnails are clickbaity as hell, and I don't agree with 100% of it, nor do I care about the rest of Lockstin's channel…but…holy shit.

It's swelled my appreciation for alchemy by several times, to the point at which I'm unabashedly excited about an upcoming Ancient Medicine course at my university. I also want to watch Full Metal Alchemist now, which, considering that I don't watch anime, is quite the feat don't you reckon?

It has also made me go from wanting Pokemon to stay on its current course, to actively supporting a reboot. Presumably this in-universe reboot would be triggered by Arceus, during the climax (or Delta Episode equivalent post-E4?) of the likely Diamond and Pearl remakes at the end of Gen 7.

While this likely won't happen, I love the sheer effort and analysis that goes into it. Again, I don't believe in all of it, but considering the arguments about Pokemon's audience trending older, the transition into Nintendo Switch (presumably on par with the PS3/360 in computing power, though this isn't confirmed) would be perfect for Pokemon to simultaneously shake up what it means to be Pokemon.

Gen 4 is all about meddling in space and time, so this makes good thematic sense. While I'm wary of children's media going out of its way to be 'edgy' and 'meaningful', Pokemon is an area where more liberties can be a good thing. Considering its ageing audience, I don't see why not.

This is an effect of the polarising nature of internet. Whether it's for better or worse, bashing social justice on Youtube is currently a source of sweet, sweet ad revenue.

Internet Atheism underwent a schism earlier this decade, and a big chunk of the major channels once famous for debunking creationists now spend their time attacking feminism and social justice. I'm talking about the likes of Sargon of Akkad, Thunderf00t, Amazing Atheist, Mundane Matt, Armoured Skeptic etc. Thunderf00t in particular is obsessed with Anita Sarkeesian, and uploads screeds of clickbait about why he dislikes her. This is despite the fact that her videos are a niche interest, and his constant haranguing only adds life to a tulpa he is convinced is a threat.

Even channels as innocuous as H3H3 productions have jumped on the 'lelele TRIGGURED' bandwagon. And why wouldn't they? It gives them millions of views.

I'm not about to say that these folks are instantly alt-right, but they are serving to legitimise alt-right (read: fascist) views. That's the reality of the internet.

Even if a figurehead criticises 'PC culture' from a 'concerned centrist' or even centre-left perspective, that figurehead will attract centre-rightists as well as the far-right.

If a figurehead criticises the far-right, they'll attract a mix of centre-leftists as well as legitimate communists and anarchists.

Gamergate was a prime example. Once Yiannopoulos jumped on board, I knew the 4chan nazis were using it to push their agenda. I'm not saying that all Gamergaters are Mussolini or whatever, but again, the polarising Internet makes this sort of thing an inevitability.

Don't forget the Sarkeesian Effect: a documentary made by a legitimate neo-Nazi writer as well as his accomplice who regularly quotes Ayn Rand. These people were opportunist, alt-right pissants who saw Gamergate as a chance to spread their agenda, and they took it.

It was actually Hbomberguy's video on the Sarkeesian Effect that clued me into all of this, and through which I discovered his hilarious channel.

I guess a Trojan horse is the best metaphor for this? Innocuous concepts such as 'free speech' are used to support a dark underbelly, just like how 'family values' is a purr word for restricting the rights of LGBT people.

(I assure you that the alt-right doesn't care about your freedom of speech, and would gladly restrict your rights if given the chance. They simply found a chink in the armour of people's perception of the left-wing, and gleefully exploited it.)

It's possible that now with a Trump presidency, this discourse will decline and we'll see the rise of anti-anti-SJW channels such as Hbomberguy, Contrapoints, and Lily Peet. I say 'anti-anti-SJW' because while Contra is himself a feminist, he doesn't hesitate to criticise the elements of feminism he finds disagreeable. That IMO is how it should be.

We, as a country, tend to classify issues as racial ones when they're actually class and wealth issues, and this is the root cause of many, if not most, social problems.

Take, for example, the fact that a disproportionate number of violent crimes are committed by black people, which is frequently cited but a complete coincidence – the reality is that poor people are more likely to commit crimes, and black people make up an unusually large portion of the poor for various historical reasons. Even when black people are totally removed from the equation, poor whites are much more likely to commit violent crimes than middle class or rich ones. It's a wealth issue that people treat like a race issue, which creates a ton of problems.

There's also affirmative action on the basis of race, which stems from the same issue. People see that there are disproportionately few blacks in colleges and assume it's due to some sort of discrimination, but it's actually simply because blacks are more likely to be in wealth groups that cannot afford college and have less access to good schools. Affirmative action should be on the basis of wealth, but again people assume it's a racial issue, and create the wrong solution.

Race relations in the US are so bad that ethnic repatriation might be the only solution.

"cultural marxism" as an ideology doesn't exist, and blaming the Frankfurt school for the decline of western society or creation of political correctness is a good sign you either have't read anything by the Frankfurt School or are too stupid to understand it.

Gun ownership should be alomost entirely unregulated and mass shootings are a small price to pay for such freedom.

Breitbart has gone from being the HuffPo of the right to being the Salon of the Right and anyone who enjoys and support any of those publications should be a ashamed of themselves.

Anime in the 80s and 90s was more original than its modern counterpart.

Todd Howard has become an awful video game designer and Skyrim and Fallout 4 were lackluster entries in their respective series.

Rogue One was mediocre.

I think Shaun King had a point when he said that the Chicago Kidnapping that occurred had no connection with BlackLivesMatter. There is no clear evidence to prove that claim. A broken clock can be right twice a day, folks.

Something alt-righters do a lot is jump to conclusions, and then assert their hasty assumptions are absolute fact. Anyone that dares question their assumptions is clearly brainwashed by the liberal media.

I'm less excited for Breath of the Wild than most people. I mean, it looks really good and I've got it on pre-order (for the Wii U), but everyone else is crying over the trailers and declaring it the best game ever before it even comes out. It bothered me that I couldn't generate that kind of enthusiasm and the best I could muster was "looks neat", but then it dawned on me that there are advantages to going in more-or-less neutral: I can look at the game more objectively if I don't carry strong expectations into the experience. If it turns out lackluster, I won't be so disappointed. If it turns out brilliant, then I'll have a great game to play.

I think the Gorillaz new single that just came out is shit. I know they're experimental, but that doesn't excuse the fact that this song is slow, boring, and uncatchy.
.
Speaking of this song, I'm also sick and tired of people hating on Donald Trump. Yeah I get it, you don't like him or his ideals, but you don't need to remind me every single god damn day. My biggest beef goes to celebrities who do this, cause I feel like they're not even doing it for political reasons. Rather they do it just to hop on the "Fuck Trump" bandwagon.
.
The reason I even brought up Trump is because the song has themes that could be connected to the Anti-Trump movement, which makes me hate this song even more.

Apparently it's not really gonna be a part of the new album, more of a one-off political song Albarn and Hewlett wanted to get out of the way now. Most people are saying it was probably more "Benjamin Clementine ft Gorillaz" rather than the other way around anyway. Admittedly yeah kind of odd one out among Gorillaz, I don't recall them doing political songs in the past, not even during the Bush years when political music was seeing something of a resurgence.

Speaking of, I'm legit wondering if people would be as accepting of a new System of a Down album nowadays compared to years ago. The band's been on hiatus for over a decade, the band being at their peak during the Bush years when their flavor of politically charged music was big. I feel like with people having gotten sick of politics as of late, would a new SOAD album be as well received? Because if you know SOAD you KNOW the album will have a lot of politics in it.

Same here. I don't have much care for him like I did with Bush due to being apathetic towards politics (that or perhaps not being as passionate or reactionary or whatever the appropriate word would be).

Yandere Sim is just Hatred but with more anime tropes. It only gets attention because it deliberately tries to be as shocking and offensive as possible, and it doesn't offer much beyond that – the gameplay is just a rehash of Hitman's, and the plot is totally generic. I cannot comprehend why it's gotten the amount of attention it has.

This is a serious question, because I don't actually know Hatred very well. Is Hatred satire?

Possibly, but I doubt it. In any case, I'm certain it's at least not sincerely edgy – it was pretty obviously trying to generate a controversy using shock factor, and get cheap publicity and sales off of it. From what I've heard, the gameplay wasn't even that good in the first place.

Pretty much, the game is just a twin stick shooter. As someone that played it, the whole shock factor was just played up by people overestimating the violence. It was really just nothing more that a variant of Postal 1 with 3D graphics.

Since you early mentioned Yandere Simulator, that game only gets attention partly due to being played by Youtubers like Markiplier and PewDiePie. On that same note, I don't care much about it being banned on Twitch.

I ask cuz I thought that is what Yandere Simulator was, a satire. Though that might've been how I saw things, not how they really are.

This feels like I'm reiterating, but am I the only one who feels like all these people are hopping on this sort of anti-"SJW" bandwagon as of late?

As of late? It's been happening for years.

Probably going to be downvoted…

I'm ashamed to admit I like the Kayne West "Stronger" way over the original "Harder Better Faster Stronger." I just think it's a better remix, and a not to shaby rap…

That doesn't mean I love Kayne, I really don't, nor do I hate Daft Punk. I just think he one thing right. Literally only one.
