I would of thought of it all as being more of people focused on beating the dead horse. I pretty much see GamerGate as nothing more than "autistic screeching" after being nominally pro in literally just wanting to see better ethics and the like. But whether the conflict never ended or a GG 2.0 comes in, one can always bet GG will live rent free in the heads of people.

That's the same guy who said GamerGate people were harassing some marginalized groups around the time that "New Guy" comic came out and was criticized. It seemed like he was making things up at that time. I think he sees OAG as an accurate example of GamerGate since the website's content reminds him of how he views other GG people.

I can't say I've liked OAG recently, especially after that Arthur thing. At first, it seemed like he was making fun of people's reactions and stuff, but looking back it was as if he was celebrating that one episode getting banned in Alabama. He also had an issue with a gay couple existing and thought it would somehow affect kids.

I think they also did another of those references where a serious-looking woman was referred to as "GamerGate's greatest enemy" years ago.

They did, was the wreck it ralph video.

"Gamergate's worst nightmare"
Oh noes there's a woman who isn't politicized and wasn't made by cronyism in the industry with the character writing to match…. Oh wait isn't that what people wanted? Isn't that everything the corrupt journalism industry would find offensive while normal people and gamergater would find normal? I've always wondered why Honest Trailer made that joke but my best guess is they tried to be topical, trusted the journalists and of course got burned for it.

It seems they still aren't exactly aware that labeling people with justified concerns as "throwing a fit" or as somehow having opinions that they didn't even bother to check they actually have… is well a bad idea that demonstrated you are out of touch with your audience.

Quick question, what is an OAG? I tried looking it up, but I only get some airport.

It means "One Angry Gamer".

There was a recent article where they complained about a gender-related decision regarding the new Animal Crossing game. It said that, only in the English version, the terms "Boy/Girl" and "Male/Female" were removed. There's a screenshot of two icons, one that looks like a boy and the other that looks like a girl (or what people usually call "boy" and "girl"), and the English version doesn't have those terms but the Japanese version did. A person was interviewed on it and said it was due to changing attitudes on gender and more of a focus on identity, essentially. They also said that the user can choose to think or not think about gender if they don't want to. Like I said, it was only in the English version, OAG alleged.

They also went on a tangent about gender identity-related events in the news. I guess it's to tie in to how this version of the game had content changed for its region. Maybe some people thought the writer was being whiny?

US Senate candidate Brianna Wu gets asked by CBS their opinion on the corona virus (Edit:KIA2 link)

Last time Wu ran they suggested weaponizing moon rocks and running hard against Gamergate. So it will be interesting if Wu plays the Gamergate card again for Wu's campaign.

I do detest those changes. I did read the article and the change does feel political. I don't want political ideology injected in entertainment. It is insulting.

Hello, been a month here.

As we all know, TLOU2 is leaked, everything is on fire.

But that's not im talking about today, I want to talk about Jason Schreier being a hypocrite when he reacts to the ND crunch vs his reaction to the leak.

A month ago, he wrote an article about the Naughty Dog crunch culture very clear he's against crunch culture due to the tone of his.

Fast forward a month later, he comes off defending ND because of the leak, basically ignoring his stance from last month. Sean (who i follow) was one of the first to call him out. Jason goes off as a "how dare you" on the single disgruntled ND employee, not even aware that there are more ND devs suffered from it to the point they left the development team.

And lo and behold, Jason continues to double down when being called out by more and more people.

Go on incognito mode if you're blocked by him

As for the leak he appears hypocritical because Kotaku has apparently been doing that for years, but Jason then complains about that very thing after it was done by someone else. The only real benefit of the doubt I can give is the ENTIRE GAME was leaked this time around, rather than just a screenshot.

Well. It is not precisely hypocrisy. It is on the most direct sense, but it is consistent with something else. Political tribalism.
He now supports them because they side with him politically.

Good grief, what has happened to this site? I know I've asked this before but it's gotten even worse lately. Even the articles themselves are getting affected.

This is one of the main sites where GamerGate happened. Where everyone bore witness to the lengths that people will go, they learned that those flying a "Progressive" flag are usually only in it for their own ill-gotten gain, they saw secret documents and legit conspiracies get wholly exposed, and most importantly of all, we all learned that you objectively cannot trust the mainstream media about anything. If they say the sky is blue, you better go out and check for yourself because something might have happened that they don't want you to know. Everything was archived here, still is.

But now more than half the site is not only drinking, they're bathing in the poisoned Kool-aid. They're just parroting everything they hear on the usual social media sites and the MSM. So many are choosing to Listen and Believe rather than to think and investigate, and it is so sad…

What happened? Is it all new users? Did half the dregs that left Tumblr end up here? Is it Don's fault? Is he pulling people in to sway things? TDS?

Seriously, it's just… it's sad. I used to love this site, it's the place to go for memes and it used to be somewhere you could actually say something without getting dumped on. Now it's rotting out just like everywhere else.

Well. It's because the moderators and administrators are basically the kind of people Raging Golden Eagle warn against. They are using this thread as containment for us. And once they feel they got enough power they will pull the plug. They have evens said so themselves. I have moved my efforts elsewhere because I have noticed, based on my conversations offline, that these people are the loud minority we claimed they are.

We're going to have to have a TwitchGate soon. They hired a… to put it nicely, a psychologically unhealthy individual as some sort of ambassador who's hell bent on banning voice chat from competitive games because they believe gamers are white supremacists and that it a"buses marginalized groups."

https://mobile.twitter.com/KEEMSTAR/status/1262202724805939201

And if their dead eyes, clothing, hair, voice, and unnatural movements weren't enough to convince you they're of unsound mind, they also fully believe they are a deer and claims to eat grass.

They also did… this live on stream.
I'm not sure what's worse, the "deergasm" or the fact there's actually someone participating in the degenerate delusion.

For the ambassador, she also harassed a gaming teammate of hers by repeatedly calling her a "bitch" at least a couple times. This is because she apparently lied about her team getting 2nd place at a tournament when it appears they actually tied for 8th. People called her out on it, you can fill in the blanks from there. I have noticed this very person talking about being harassed, but it appears to be another false deflection. Twitch has always had its problems and controversies, but Twitch could hit a new low here with her hiring.

I'm not concerned with any "deergasm" stuff. I just think she is a provably abusive hypocrite who is also a liar and has questionable viewpoints.

Another key and obvious point that they are the minority is that the gamergate article kept exploding and dominating the trending bar at the top which only ever stopped once the mods kept forcing people to go to the thread where they then had some of the mods just plain stop following the rules and attack users.

Honestly if they want to kill the site they're doing a great job. Gamergate basically represents geek culture at this point. There isn't a single medium out there that isn't under threat of getting gutted for politically motivated reasons with quality of work being thrown out the window. Only the willfully ignorant are left (heh, pun) thinking things are okay right now.

Businesses that can't keep professionalism in check are basically eroding away and taking the largest parts of the industry with it. Before people were staying silent because they would lose their job, now they're realizing whatever they do, they're going to lose their job anyway.

I'm not suggesting this site is going to die, but when a major topic can't be discussed because it has the wrong politics… well good job kneecapping yourself. Wonder how much traffic this site loses because politically incorrect memes can't be discussed, posted or talked about and the rules never apply to people who hold the right politics. For example there's still the one dude who seems to be down-voting every post on the thread seemingly only skipping hostile comments. I wonder how long any user would last if they did that in any other thread?

Unlike you, we have lives outside of this. So we don't invest as much time in activism, political protests, or attempting to change things. We are quite busy building our own places and making a profit out of it.

Oh and the Twitch Staff Controversy (FerociouslySteph) is also being labeled as GamerGate 2.0, as Keemstar said with 20k likes

It's because of things like this that I dropped Rick and Morty after season 3, and last year I ceased watching any Western television show.

At this point I'm not even that interested in Western entertainment at all.

Dude. Literally the people opposing what GamerGate represented are barely capable of making memes. How is one supposed to have a meme related database where you side only with the part of the internet which can't meme?
They are so restricted in their sense of humor they can't meme.

Eh, it was just a laundry list of names to show how many people Morty pissed off. The ALCU and Justice Sotomayor were also listed, so it's more of a namedrop for laughs than an actual insult.

That's not to say that someones going to take it out of context and be offended that #Gamergate was in the same list of offendees as the Grassroots #metoo campaigners. (Again same joke.)

You unironically called someone a Trump supporter without evidence and then accuse us as idiots.

Either go to the Politics Thread or get yeeted by a mod by continuing to not behave.

Also why didnt you tell that guy to go to politics? He is claiming more than half of kym is "MSM puppets" and drinking the cool aid. He went on a full rant about how KYM doesn't conform to his viewpoint despite it never being near right-wing in the first place

Super Loli Edit:

Don't double post unless you rant out of time to edit your post and you want to quote someone's post.

To quote a post use the following code: "bq. (quoted text)".

And this is how it looks.

Again, double posting is not allowed unless you rant out of time and you can't edit your post or if you hit the character limit you're allowed to split your message in two posts.

The recent back and forth is actually raising a good question. @steve Why are you violating rules #2 (Keep it relevant.) and #6 (Be friendly.) to try and provoke an argument? This seems incredibly odd given the forum rules you agreed to abide by. Plus the frequency of your posting appears to be starting a violation of rule #4. (No flooding or spamming.)

The reason why this topic flares up is to discuss instances of #gamergate cropping up. If there's nothing to note, it typically doesn't get posted. The fact that this thread goes dormant for weeks/months at a time proves that the #gamergate event is slipping into irrelevancy like other old memes. However a mention of gamergate, a redefinition of the event or provoking others just stokes it back up. Complaining about #gamergate and those involved (ironically the very people you're targeting for participating) makes this relevant again.

TL;DR: Steve's commentary is turning the thread malicious and off topic compared to our normal discussion. This violates our extra rules just to keep blasting other participants of this thread by bringing their character into question. These actions can threaten the stability of this discussion thread. Leave the bait alone.

Recommendation: Just keep logging in Gamergate mentions in media, culture and memes, they're getting less frequent now. However this is an election year so we'll see what happens come November. As there's probably going to be someone blaming some bad thing with #gamergate as the root, like the last 5+ years.

Relevancy: Breaking of the rules in a #gamergate discussion thread for attacking participants of not discussing #gamergate with frequency for not keeping the thread alive, brings it back to life because it involves talking about #gamergate.

Oh that's funny steve. You think people have to be right-wing to not trust a media source that less than 40% of the population trusts anymore. And you might want to look at that posted evidence again

"Downplaying the market crash" – Accusation
"This seriously feels like a giant panic over nothing." – Actual statement being accused
How does that downplay the market crash? The context is that the user being accused "Dioxin Jimmy" states that he feels that the stock market crash should not have happened. There is no denial or downplaying of a stockmarket crash.

"another post in defense of him [Donald Trump]" – Accusation
"Yet another "anonymous whistleblower" publishing untold horrors about events that will be proved to not have happened in a few weeks. What a load of crap." – Actual statement being accused

Wow… I don't know what to say about this one. Oh noes, he thinks innocent before proven guilty therefore he's right wing? There's absolutely nothing wrong with expressing skepticism towards lackluster anonymous evidence and its a clear sign that there is something wrong with your ideological view point when you ignore objective facts to presume guilt over. Oh and P.S the whistleblower didn't have any real dirt on the president so even with hindsight 20/20 your accusation is insultingly weak.

And to be honest there's not much point looking at the rest of the evidence because you are literally claiming someone is right wing just because they support a president. You're not looking at ideas or concepts… you are looking at stance to determine validity and value of content. You are acting exactly as he has just accused the site of being. Never mind the fact that you had to dig for month old comments just to make this weak commentary. If you have clear contempt for the subject why even post in the forums?

why are you flagrantly misinterpreting the rules? #4 is an absolute reach but I don't see accusations of the KYM community and staff as friendly or relevant. I am merely responding to some THERMONUCLEAR takes here.

no, the person, I have a problem with the dumb comment that kym is some sort of hive mind for liberals. It's delusional and we get called the opposite all the time. (I.e See funnyjunk)

If you think hes some sort of grifter or reactionary, then post something that suggests otherwise. Im pretty sure that the dude who went on an off-topic tirade about kym being to left-wing and spends his time here defending the president and is visibly sickened by ace colors (?) is a trump supporter. I think you're in denial considering his comments are months apart but always on republican shit or defending the president. He even mentioned TDS in his rant for Pete sake.

"bq.you think people have to be right-wing to not trust a media source that less than 40% of the population trusts anymore" Nice conservative talking point, but no. Trump supporters have this absolute hate boner for MSN though and it makes them really easy to spot from other republicans.

The only thing i did was think and investigate, I thought this was just a trump supporter being upset that Kym isnt a right-wing hive mind, and sure enough I was right. So I mocked him for his stupid take.

So basically you can't defend KYM without immediately attacking everyone who posts in the thread or has a neutral or even skeptical view compared to you.

I don't think you understand what downplaying means because downplaying means to state that an event is not as serious as it actually is. Nothing in stating that the panic is over nothing, as in the panic causing the crash, states that the crash's effect or intensity is lower or reduced.

"Im pretty sure that the dude who went on an off-topic tirade about kym being to left-wing"

Yup this definitely a violation of rule 3. Starting a discussion about a single individual whom you clearly have it in for without bothering to explain context beyond saying lol he's right wing trump supporter. Again, you are looking at his stance and not on the content of what he has said. Mentioning TDS as in Trump derangement Syndrome isn't outrageous or out of normalcy where normalcy can be defined as what a neutral observer can see.

I can clearly see in your post that you think conservative ideas are somehow instantly invalidated without proof nor valid logic involved. Especially since the 40% number includes Fox news and conservative news outlets and the number was low even before Trump said anything. Keep in mind constantly talking about trump for no reason is also a violation of rule 3 not to mention makes no sense in the context of this conversation since even if the user you accuse of being wrong defends or supports Trump… it doesn't reduce his argument that KYM has moderated gamergate out existence (and good luck gaslighting me on this one, I was there when they did and I was personally attacked by at least two mods who as far as I know were still mods despite clearly breaking the rules), that things aren't exactly great on the website (seriously are any the trending memes even worth looking at, I see better memes on other sites, memes that curiously don't have pages on this site) and that there is a problem with individuals failing to consider ideas.

Case in point you have not considered any of his ideas and have simply attacked his character to the point that you think him stating that the stock market 2020 crash was unnecessary counts as downplaying the severity of the crash. Any neutral observer would notice that stating that something should not have happened is not a statement that states the event didn't happen or was not severe. Any neutral observer can read the post and clearly see that user doesn't want KYM to be a right-wing hivemind either… but clearly you hold the user in contempt so making up his argument and what he wants is more important than being accurate as is customary when one wishes to act like a meme.

"The only thing i did was think and investigate"
Sigh, its been so long… how do I format a picture into a post again?

I think that best describes how people will react to the concept that you put serious thought and effort into defending KYM and proving that its not under any ideologically driven problems right now.

remember when you baselessly said that gamergate was representative of the majority of gamer culture with no proof? Yeah, I was mocking you specifically in that comment, I just didnt hit quote.

"So basically you can't defend KYM without immediately attacking everyone who posts in the thread or has a neutral or even skeptical view compared to you. " What a dumb assumption. You notice that I only called out two people for having really fucking shitty opinions. You and the trump supporter. And yes, if it walks and talks like a trump supporter, it is one. You are quite literally denying the evidence of your eyes and ears. Quite literally, purposely misinterpreting, the stock market crash, if you think saying market panic over the coronavirus and oil prices was "over nothing". "where normalcy can be defined as what a neutral observer can see. " Except no one mentions TDS except trump supporters, it has fallen that much out of popularity since it started, idk, 3 years ago? Its quite the dead meme outside of the trump circles. "Again, you are looking at his stance and not on the content of what he has said.) "

Because his claim was baseless and not supported by anything.
"Case in point you have not considered any of his ideas "
what ideas?! This dude only whined about kym having different politics from him. He quite literally didnt say anything else.

" and good luck gaslighting me on this one, I was there when they did and I was personally attacked by at least two mods who as far as I know were still mods despite clearly breaking the rules " Didnt happen, you are flagrantly lying. "I can clearly see in your post that you think conservative ideas are somehow instantly invalidated without proof nor valid logic involved,)" You say this despite providing no evidence to support any of your claims at all. like "bq. (Especially since the 40% number includes Fox news and conservative news outlets and the number was low even before Trump said anything.)"

you got a citation for that? you said it twice, whined about proof, but havent provided proof for this.

"that things aren't exactly great on the website (seriously are any the trending memes even worth looking at, I see better memes on other sites, memes that curiously don't have pages on this site) and that there is a problem with individuals failing to consider ideas. "

once again, a baseless claim unsupported by anything, yet you tout your opinion as truth.

"Yup this definitely a violation of rule 3." keep bringing up the rules, but keep breaking them yourself. "bq. Starting a discussion about a single individual whom you clearly have it in for without bothering to explain context " you are doing this yourself lol. You cant accuse me of not being on topic without going offtopic yourself. (proof nor valid logic involved.) " The irony, you should use some of those yourself. You have nothing to support your argument in defense of this man, yet you keep parroting a word salad of the phrase "You don't know that!" when i pointed out the dudes politics greatly vary from kym and then when people called me out instead of looking at the dude themselves, I could actually provide something that supports my statement. You have literally nothing. All you are doing is "Listen and Believe"ing

@Steve

Again to highlight: STARTING a Violation of #4, not an actual violation. The timing of your posts are happening quite rapidly within each other (Special rule at the beginning of this thread) and again are fixated on attacking posters instead of talking about #gamergate as an instance. (Breaking rule #2)

HOWEVER, your constant use of swearing and non-defense of breaking these rules and #6 (Repeated curses and insults, that can't be edited now) is practically a full on admission of disregarding these things, and therefore I have no choice but to report you for breaking the agreement you made when you decided to post. I'm sorry, but if you can't follow the general forum rules, then you are subject to the consequences of your actions.

Relevancy: Talking about not talking about #gamergate is still bringing up #gamergate as a discussion.

@steve
Is that a counter argument for ants?
So from what I can read… and I 'll just have to squint really hard:
1. There is literally so much evidence that every single medium is under attack that you can just google medium name + sexist and get results. It is common knowledge since that's the case. The evidence is literally in this thread heck, the fact that all discussion of gamergate has to go into a single thread while no other meme seemly has never had that happen to it tends to prove my point anyway.

2. I am not violating any rules or discussion guidelines by pointing out that your arguments don't work. It's not offtopic if I have to point out that you are resembling the accusations made by Dioxin Jimmy. The fact that mods haven't done anything yet tends to indicate that Dioxin Jimmy might actually be right in his assertion. Since I only commented on the state of moderation against the thread and other types of memes, I don't really support his assertion about the current userbase of the site since I don't browse anymore because the memes and topics aren't enjoyable anymore.

3. "what ideas?! This dude only whined about kym having different politics from him. He quite literally didnt say anything else."
Then you have obviously not considered his ideas at all. Since he also stated that the userbase is not even using logic anymore and considering that you said I had no proof when I did in fact use supporting evidence in my assertions in the post that you said you mocked I think you very well resemble what he has said. If you would like to provide maybe some sort of actual evidence that the majority of the userbase of the site isn't left-leaning or not unwilling to use critical thinking skills you are free to post it.

Dioxin Jimmy hasn't broken any of the rules, his discussion of the heavy handed moderation against the topic is on topic.Your decision to simply dismiss him as right wing and call everyone the vocal minority is not however as you are merely attack character and not ideas.

There is this concept known as philosophy, where you, surprisingly enough, actually read what your ideological opponent has written and actually analyze what they have said and whether there may be weight to it (even if the text was written for ants). I don't agree with Dioxin Jimmy that the majority of the userbase is left-leaning with no critical thinking skills but I see no evidence against it and you have unfortunately provided evidence for it and the lopsided moderation has also provided evidence for it.

In fact just looking through the gamergate article now, we can clearly see that anti-GG posts are now highly upvoted with one of your posts about how gamergate was a right wing recruitment conspiracy getting 13 upvotes when just about anyone who knows anything would disagree with that since there have been literally zero proven cases of gamergate terrorist attacks or right wing recruitment. Somehow we managed to prove a negative and with an FBI report no less.

4. "you got a citation for that? you said it twice, whined about proof, but havent provided proof for this."

I need to provide proof for a commonly available statistic? Are you that lazy?

Trust has been spirally down since the early 2000s. This is what is known as common knowledge. You don't need citations for information that is common knowledge to non-willfully ignorant. Independents have had a less than 50% trust in media after 2003. The average person has not trusted the media since 2003.

Look, not to defend him or anything, but instead of threatening him with forum rules, just report him or something

I am working on that report with screencaps and notations to highlight the violations. However, its not a threat to point out that Steve was actively breaking the rules and leaving a paper trail to Steve.

The first one was a listing of rule violations for going against other posters here. That serves as a warning of "hey, keep it up and I'll have to do this"

The second was due to continued repeated violations and not being on the topic, which is #gamergate. Thus, the report had to be submitted. If I don't explain the rules as they're being broken to the one in active violation, then they may not be aware as to what leads to their consequence, allowing for conjecture over confirmation.

Relevancy: had to mention the violation of not being on the topic of #gamergate to make the post here.

1. So you dont have evidence? You are just gonna continue to talk out of your ass?
2. You are baselessly making an accusation again. Then you admit that you only care about me calling him right wing. You got offended by this.
3. a rule for thee another for me! You are doing absolute mental gymnastics to justify his statement that you dont(?) agree with. you have provided almost nothing, no evidence except that citation for the 40%. I provided a logical conclusion that based of his post history that he was a trump supporter angry that kym isn't right wing. He was all edge and no point, like a pizza cutter, in his rant. It was completely off-topic because it was solely about how he felt about kym. It belonged in politics thread, and you know it. But even that, that statement is within the character of a trump supporter. There is quite literally no idea in that rambling, it is lashing out at the rest of the userbase because of a difference in idealogy. Then you joined in to say that gamergate represents geek culture despite evidence to the contrary, gamergate is pretty dead; only talked about by feminists, ironically. I did take a look at the gamergate article and I can see you are full of it. The comments there are reminiscing about it 5 years later with different takes on it, the visibly anti gg are all negative too. You are also in denial if you don't think right-wing grifters like milo or sargon didn't use this opportunity. Same with lefties, only with Anita and Zoe.
4. Way to misinterpret that graph. 32% of Americans don't have a "great deal" of trust in the media, but it goes on to blame this on Republicans, by comparing the democrats, independents, and republicans (51,30,14 respectively). It then goes to blame Donald Trump for this because this was the election cycle Donnie trashed the news, causing a plummet in trust in the media, especially for Republicans, who bring down the national average. It also goes to say in one of those paragraphs that mistrust in the media hasnt been below 40% since 2001. You also could have used the newest gallup poll, which shows media trust on the fluctuating but on the rise https://news.gallup.com/poll/267047/americans-trust-mass-media-edges-down.aspx but that kinda goes against your point. Media trust is not lower than 40%, you are wrong, even if its just a little bit; you are still wrong, you were asserting it as truth while not supporting it while telling me that i need proof (which I brought), then you saw you were wrong and you tried to cop out with outdated data like i wouldn't notice. Its funny though that you would use an article blaming republicans for media mistrust though.
5. "Common knowledge" fallacy is an admission that you don't know what you're talking about essentially. You dont have anything to back up your claims so youre doubling down that it is true by asserting that I should know this stuff already. You also left out the part where you actaully provided proof for "I was personally attacked by at least two mods who as far as I know were still mods despite clearly breaking the rules)," But, then you go onto cite my argument and perceived excessive moderation as evidence for the majority of the userbase is left-leaning with no critical thinking skills but I see no evidence against it and you have unfortunately provided evidence for it and the lopsided moderation has also provided evidence for it." despite you contradicting yourself saying you dont believe that and you dont browse kym outside of this thread. Sounds like you didnt critically think in this response.

Some people really are obsessed with Nazis. However, I don't get why this is happening now, and not back when GamerGate was the thing that many talked about. Way to strike while the iron's cold.

INB4 one goes on how the communist fought against the fascist reich or that wasn't true communism or something. Honestly, I don't even care much about communism but saying it wasn't true could sound like a no true scotsman thing at least in terms of what the group believed in.
