Do you find it dangerous that a lot of gamergate-related posts are or were on websites and pages that are either being shut down or too heavily monitored. A lot of posts and threads were on Escapist forums, 8chan, kotakuinaction etc.

With these sources being in danger, the mainstream media can easily revise history.

True, although I they've been doing that for years. This will just make it easier for them to do so. Granted, it may still not work since trust in media is quite low iirc. There's a chance it could backfire. While it is tempting to look at things negatively, I think it's good to be optimistic.

That is a fair reason to worry. In fact the issue with revised history has been around for centuries. Che Guevara is seen as a hero because of it, Nikola Tesla was absent from school rooms for decades because of it, and a fair share of facts are missing from common knowledge because of it.

If there is something that should worry everyone is historical revisionism, but in most cases most people actually want it, as long as it is on their side.

I actually went and looked at the ResetERA thread and the entire first page is negativity. Some of the comments saying "I'm not buying it" is one thing, but wanting to get them fired is typical for a forum like this.

And now some Ethics in Games Journalism. Niche Gamer has been exposed on not paying staff for over 2 years after bragging that they did. The reporter on this was Sophia Narwitz, who has been exposing a lot of ethics in games journalism regardless of the spin (for or against gamers).

Oh and Apex Legends (polygon archive link) game dev and community manager do not think to highly of their player base on their free to play game. Mostely due to the backlash of some payment mechanics. It's like they don't know that the model of Free to Play is to make cash off of a few major pay players to support the platform instead of all of them.

Can I add the part that said the dev deadass called the players "free loaders" despite the game being a f2p.

Tbh I never cared about Apex Legends tbh, i only played 1 month of it and got bored since I'm not the type of battle royal peson.
Only thing that bothered me is that he went on too far calling the players "free-loaders" which completely doesn't make sense despite a game being f2p

UPDATE: Apex Legends community turn dev's 'freeloader' comment into rallying cry
I take that the dev "freeloader" insult was just a fuel to the fire.
.
I do support the devs fighting back, just went poorly done tbh

Forgive me for second post, but speaking of devs fighting back, the Ion Fury devs backs down after some transphobic comments back in 2016 or so.

For the Ion Fury devs comments, there's a couple that do seem questionable, so I can understand having an issue with them. The others don't seem all that bad.

@Garde
The part about free-to-play making a lot of money off of a few people reminds me of that South Park episode where Canada released their own mobile game. Very funny and it applies pretty well imo.

Also, I hope Niche Gamer pays its writers. I've thought more highly of that site than many others.

In regards to Niche Gamer, it is rather low the writers haven't been paid for 2 years. One can imagine some of its detractors trying to dance over like with how they tried to run with the idea of NG's Yakuza article being unprofessional. But all that said, this doesn't really look good for Niche Gamer in terms of ethics though this gives me some more respect to Sophia Narwitz in showing what goes on.

The line under the title of said article mentions that kids are arriving "with agendas", which is ironic given that these sites have their "own agendas". It feels weirdly complimentary that we've apparently influenced a bunch of younger people.

What gets me is that, as a followup to the article, a responder admits that #NotYourSheild is alive and well

For the "college professor" you're talking about, i think that there is a student here in r/KIA called u/BigLove91 stating that it might actually be his professor in that tweet.
r/KIA: ''You know that College professor who stubbornly refuses to acknowledge that his opinion on GamerGate is BS? I think he's talking about me… And I have an audio recording of the whole thing''
Audio recording is over an hour long btw.

I thought Feig once said he didn't like how Ghostbusters got political? Oh well, some people just can't admit that some things aren't destined to be successful. I never supported anything Feig has made, so my decision never support his stuff is going to be super easy.

Also, happy 5th anniversary!

It's 7 hours in from my last post and another Gamergate article popped up
And it's related to Zoe Quinn's accusations recently.
Im very tired

CON founder Chelsea "Zoe Quinn" van Valkenberg emerges from the shadow of #gamergate.

Talking about an event that has nothing to do with Gamergate and dragging the history from 5 years ago with a new* spin

*Recycled

Trust but verify. After all, the accused party has yet to ref-

Oh wait they're listening and believing? This is gonna be a bit of publicity for a while.

Apologies on this being late and not realizing this post way earlier but as far as information goes, aren't there archived links one could fall back onto? Granted, I can imagine one would say not to trust them because of things like the source of where it comes from.

This has gone too far. Someone in AGG actually killed someone. Are we still the evil ones? We never were though.

The term is "driven to suicide."

While the timing is suspect, and that ZQ has deleted her twitter and hidden her patreon earnings suddenly. There's enough wiggle room for plausible deniability. There needs to be hard evidence of the conspiracy for it to result in a charge. Otherwise those that go with a gut suspicion without facts to back up, will result in a collapse of any reputation. (See any thread from Resetera)

Knowing how narcissistic antigamergate has been, its only a matter of time before they somehow manage to place the blame on Gamergate.

After all, the accuser is the real victim since they still are have a pulse to get pinned with blame, deserving or not.

To be clear, I don't like any of this. The accusation of a sexual assault that had no facts other than belief of supporting parties, the suicide which may have resulted from several factors with the most recent drama possibly being the tipping point. It just reeks of too much conclusion jumping and not enough concrete evidence to pin it down with.

Basically: Trust but VERIFY.

Isn't driving people to suicide a criminal form of harassment punished in the US?

At least where I live, Mexico, it is indeed a crime. At least since last year.

It is considered encouragement to suicide and is held as criminal.

In all honesty the world would be a better place if Quinn was successful with things such as Goddess Mode instead of needing corruption, nepotism, and abuse to get ahead in life.

Be that as it may, in the US the suspected party would have to be charged with hard evidence and proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The problem is that the evidence thus far requires certain circumstances for it to happen. And unless there is a "Hahaha I did it. It was definately me, heres how I did it and why" confession*, the suspected can only be suspected.

*See CON skype logs.

Its not a matter if there was a drive to suicide. It's "if it can be proven that the suspect definately did it without a provable excuse." Examples would be chat logs discussing ruining the victim's life, a suicide note accusing the suspect(s) specifically, and a provable motive*.

*"They did it for the reputation and money"

Plus Alec was a Canadian, so that makes it more legally strange. And I dont know international law that well.

Sounds like we need another chat log leak. Hopefully someone she was closer to has some morals and will release what they have.

This can't be allowed to go down the memory hole. The approved narrative cannot go uncontested.

I know one of them was Scott Benson's Twitter account. Not sure on the third, but I do know that Alec's sister made her account private.

I cam understand the sister doing that. The last thing she needs is the aGGro mob attacking her for telling people the truth.

Hello random user, did you enjoy the catharsis of down voting every message? Got it out of your system? Good. Because this is still a discussion thread talking about those involved with gamergate.

And as is with the pattern of gamergate being forced back into the limelight: Brianna Wu goes straight past any form of reason and straight into insanity.

If we were as dangerous as we're made out to be, Wu would already be dead.

Red Fox The torturer wrote:

lol it's just a video game. Who cares? There are children in Africa dying of hunger.

Go feed them then. Also, this is not "just a video game" this is a total disaster within the industry that led to the suicide of a man after he was blacklisted by corrupt people within.

This is worth lots of attention. We are speaking about a deep seated web of corruption within entertainment, which leads to actual death.

And seriously. The "children in Africa" argument is so worn out at this point you are more likely to get a racist remark about said children instead of changing people's minds with it.

So it appears Zoe Quinn's tale of the abuse from Alec H. Appears to be riddled with holes… From her own twitter account.

According to the Post Millenial Article, tweets from around the time when she was "controled" by Alec don't match her story. She claimed he took over her social life and her podcast project, according to her archived tweets that wasn't the case.

So yeah. Facts to Verify the Truth, and shed light on the Listen and Belief.

Okay I see how the post millenial, the cyberattack on the post millenial and urban dictionary all have to do with GG. (Zoe Quin being the tying factor)

How does kiwifarms work into all of this?

I assume it had some Gamergate-related discussions.
