My tale (and i'm sure most others') is not all that riviting.
Was wandering around the internet and occasionally saw some pony. At one point i wondered "Okay, WTF is that?" and got learned. I thought "My Little Pony?" and had that accused theam song from the 80's play in my mind. "How can people like this?" I thought to myself "Well like I always say, Don't hate on something until you have tried it." so i went and found the KYM entry, I read it and thought "Wow, people seriously like this." so i watched the first episode and thought "This is awesome." although i was a little biased after seeing some of the things the community had made. A few days later i was Supermonday of KYM and made my fist comment on the page.
That is my story.

That I would live to see the day where YOU would say that. I never thought it would be possible.

Also how I became a brony?
Very simple. It was all over the internet, couldn't really avoid it. So I checked it out, watched some episodes and some fan-art. Before I knew it I was a brony.

While trying to live down my self-reminder of a username…sure.

I was surfing the Internet, bored as a board can be (totally not a board,) and I thought to come to KYM. They've got funny pictures. As soon as I get here, I see a Pinkie Pie gif much like this one minus the glow sticks.

I never really knew anything about My Little Pony (played Varsity football, school president, pretty popular guy,) even though I have a soft spot for cute stuff like Kirby and Girafarig…

Wait…best pony right here.

…But the design and animation looked pretty cool, and I wondering why MLP was on KYM. So I go to read the article. I thought the creator/unexpected fan interaction was pretty interesting, and so I thought to give it a watch.

I was hooked without knowing it after watching Pinkie scream about bats on her hace.
I had a suspicion that I was hooked after watching 10 straight episodes.
I knew I was hooked when I read Bittersweet and cried the most since I was in elementary school.

I regret nothing. I state that it is not the manliest anything on television. It's cute, innocent fun. And it's awesome at being that. It was good to have being away from friends and family for school.

TL;DR

Pinkie was the bait, Twilight was the hook, the show is the aquarium, and I am one happy fish in stuck in captivity.

For me I had noticed that all of a sudden MLP FiM was becoming a huge trend in the Internet. It was shocking. However, unlike every other meme I knew how they grew and so on. Eventually I watched eps to find out, got a message, kept on watching. Became brony.

Origin stories… Awesome… * flexes fingers*

A couple of months back, I was doing my usual check up on some Memebase sites, when I noticed that KYM had been linked to the CheezBurger Network. I was already vaguely familiar with the site, but I'd never really had a good look at it. I noticed that My Little Pony was top of the trending bar, which was honestly quite confusing. I read the article, which pretty much left me even more confused. I recall checking out the article a few more times, and I was pretty impressed by some of the memetic content the community had been producing.

After a couple of days I decided to check out the first episode, just to see what all the fuss was about. I'm guessing my initial response to the show was quite a common one; I started laughing at myself for even bothering. But, by the end, I had to admit that the show was actually quite impressive, from the artwork and animation to characters and dialogue. I was admittedly a bit concerned with the fact that I was an adolescent male watching a show I perceived to be aimed at little girls, so I kept telling myself that I was just watching as a joke. What with the cliff-hanger ending to episode one, I felt the need to at least watch till the end of the second episode. At the time, I was preparing for some important exams, and I was under a lot of pressure to achieve high grades. It was quite stressful, and watching the show acted as a perfect counter-stress activity. I think it was the complete lack of cynicism found in the show, coupled with nostalgia for the shows I watched as a kid that made it so appealing. I was hooked.

As I watched through the first season, I gradually started caring less and less for all of the gender and age stereotypes that I was breaking, since I was genuinely enjoying the show and it was helping me keep my sanity during the exams. I started getting all the in jokes, and the article on this site became one of my regular haunts. After watching the entirety of the first season, I immediately started again from the beginning. After my second viewing I turned to fan fiction to keep myself entertained (Cupcakes was the first I read. In hindsight, that probably wasn't one of my smartest decisions). After my exams, I started a long break, where I had a lot of time to kill, and I spent a lot of it just reading and lurking. It didn't take long before I'd decided that I wasn't content to simply lurk the comments on this site or finish reading fan fictions without showing appreciation for the authors, and I wanted a more active role in the community. The next day I picked the name Algernon and signed up.

Wow, that took much longer to write than I thought it would. I'm gonna go lie down…

Gentlecolts, I present you:

And there's a lot more where that's coming from, but I don't want to flood the forum just yet.

Here's a little topic that might gain a little interest:

"What would the show be like if Lauren's original character concepts were used instead of the current ponies?"

Here's what they were supposed to look like:

From left to right: Surprise, Sparkler, Firefly, Twilight, Applejack, and Posey

I'm not sure anybrony could stand the amount of insanity that could be caused by Pinkie Pie with wings.

The onslaught continues…

@Jostin
It's great how the only change made to Applejack was giving her a hat. Some of those designs were pretty awful though, especially Rarity and Rainbow Dash.

Anyway, as much as I'd love to keep to posting, it's 3:30 AM over here in Britland so I really must be going.

@Jostin
Applejack has the same eye shape as Twilight. Unacceptable. It may be that I'm used to seeing the colors different for the mane six, but collectively they would have been an eyesore. Also, Rainbow Dash and Twilight are both Pink, and Pinkie Pie is not Pink. Unacceptable.

@Algernon
That would help to explain your mastery of English. Peace, homie.

I know an awesome video series to give you a link to. but I wont. ahahahaha. now who's dark.

An awesome video series? I think I know what you're talking about.

Have episode 1:

Interesting fact. I have only watched season one 1.5 times. I am far too active here to find time to do non-pony things i want to do AND watch pony episodes. Damn very active community, preventing me from watching Dr. Who and Pony and doing various other things.

you cant kill the ponies the ponies will live on. Forever alone tried to kill the ponies but they failed as they were smite to the ground. Me Gusta tried to kill the ponies but they failed as they were stricken down to the ground. Troll face tried to kill the ponies hahahaha THEY FAILED as they were thrown to the ground.

Well, I finally got the time to tell my riviting tale of how I came across such an event.

I use to spent my days moderating some forum on a ye old game within a old game (INCEPTION). At one point in time, the admin of said forum got pissed and vacationed for about 4+ months. During that time, there was no fun, there was no laughing, there was just lost ideas and old game threads beaten to death. I spent most of time off the forum and on things like Memebase and VeryDemotivational. The admin of the forum finally returned to the forum and made a thread to notify his return. Of course in the next 24 hours the… what? 6-8 active members of the forum flooded the hell out of it, with about 300+ unrelated posts to the topic. The admin simply responded "God I love this forum. It's like a work safe 4chan… But without the ponies. SOMEONE POST SOME GOD DAMN PONIES! xD" I figured if I joked around and fulfilled his sarcastic request he would feel more welcomed.

And by some coincedence that a pony image got on the featured page on Memebase. Digged in the comments, found the name of the show. Google lead me to the KYM article. Read it. Found it funny. So I went digging in the image bank. I found some of it hilarious, but I didn't understand alot of the content. So in order to try and understand the puns made in the image captions and such I went back to the article and watched Episode 1. It was past all expectations, and beyond that a cliffhanger. So I went and watched Episode 2. Well that was a gimmicky episode, but the animation and voice acting was awesome! Looking back at the images, I understood some, but not too much of the image captions. So I'm like "Well what's there to lose? I got NOTHING else to do seeing how I've been back and fourth from memebase and verydemotivational over and over again" So I watched 3 more episodes. I understood everything from the Golden tickets to Applederps to anything Gilda. Posted some ponies, got some funny feedback.

After Applebuck Season I figured the show was worth watching to the end. So I went and watched episode after episode, returning to the KYM article for images. Of course my eyes and page migrated south from time to time to read comments. It amazed me how much grown men (or so they claimed, in which there's there too many for them all to be simply lie) obsess over this show. I could have considered myself as a brony at that time, I just lacked contributing.

It got to about a bit after the article hit 500k that I joined. I was like "Well I'm always lurking on Memebase. And I want to party with these peeps. I don't see why the hell not" AND THEN I JOINED. In this time, I have probably accomplished nothing. Except for assembling the best group of friends possible to man kind and in turn receiving 20% more coolness. I still lack a decent name around here, but I'm building it, in my socially-awkward slow-paced way.
[would post AND THATS HOW EQUESTRIA WAS MADE but that has already been done :I ]

@♫DJ Xelus, Scratch Master♫
Well now i feel like i need to say "Welcome to the Herd" but that has already been said to you…right?
We all love ya Xelus. Your awkwardness and lack of image waring does not mean that you are not a brony, in fact it means that you are one of the sane ones. The occasional posts you make are contribution enough to this community.
Unrelated note: Why do these ponies prevent me from sleeping?!?!

If I do recall… I was welcomed. About 7-10 days after I joined, and I've been very active since day 1. My decrease in activity mostly results from hanging with mah bro[nie]s in the KYM Brony Brotherhood chatroom on steam [ADVERTISING], And I assure you I am indeed an emotional wreck and one of the farthest from "sane".
And on your condition. It is a known side effect of observing too much ponies will cause insomnia.

Hai all. Retelling on how people came across the show? Well, I shall tell my tale as well… as a poem.

'Twas the night before Tuesday, week before WrestleMania.
I sat in my room, sick and insania.
I was bored as I scrolled through page after page
Of Memebase images with faces of rage

All of a sudden something caught my eye
It was none other than dear Pinkie Pie.
The haters were hating at this so called "gem"
So out of curiosity I google'd Know Your Meme.

I entered the page about this subculture
I quickly looked through it like some kind of vulture.
I looked towards the video and gave a bored "what the ****,
I might as well see if this show doesn't suck."

So I clicked on the video and allowed it to gather
Thinking about things I would do so much rather.
So the show started with a tale of night and day
All the while I though "hm, it's okay"

Then the moment came where Luna became pissed
And turn to Nightmare Moon, as I said "Woah, dark twist".
The show carried on as I watched intently
And once it ended I clicked part two instantly.

Once the show ended, not the way I thought it would
I said to myself "wow, this is good".
And I watched the next episode, and then went to bed.
And, quite frankly, more need not be said.
