About

CBD or Cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid compound found in marijuana which became a popular supplement for its healing properties.

History

In 1940, American chemist Roger Adams[10] was the first to isolate cannabidiol from the cannabis plant. As marijuana maintained its illegal drug status up through the 21st Century many scientists and health experts struggled to defend CBD's legitimacy. Many informational articles and basic informational videos began surfacing around 2016. For example, on July 22nd, 2017 AMA Regenrative Medicine & Skincare outlines the simple, still being researched, benefits of CBD (shown below). The video has received over 780,000 views and 12,000 likes in two years.

In 2017, many CBD products were released and made easily available. The US Food and Drug Administration[13] issued warning letters to four companies – Stanley Brothers Social Enterprises LLC, Greenroads Health, Natural Alchemist, and That’s Natural! Marketing and Consulting – that market edibles, oils, tinctures, capsules, and topical creams containing cannabidiol for making unsubstantiated claims.

On October 27, 2018 Alex Williams wrote a piece for the New York Times[8] about the CBD food[9] and topical "craze."

On Oct. 1, 2019, "the health department [in NYC] will begin doling out infractions to food service establishments for offering food or drink containing cannabidiol" reported CNBC.[11]
