On August 31st, 2022, TikToker^[1] @borkzzisdaddy posted a video about how he creates netherite ingots in the survival video game Minecraft, at one point stuttering and blurting out a noise that sounds like the N-word. The video gathered over 20 million views and 2 million likes in two years.

Memes about the "Netherite Ingot Incident" began making the rounds on TikTok in subsequent years, oftentimes with people sharing Those Who Know style memes simply referencing the phrase "Netherite Ingot Incident."

TikToker^[2] @bunchorabbits recreated the video in the VR game Rec Room on October 20th, 2022, gathering over 4,000 likes in two years.

On July 18th, 2023, TikToker^[3] @witeeye posted a video with a Serious / Despair xQc meme that gathered over 7 million plays and 300,000 likes in two years.

On December 10th, 2023, TikToker^[4] @james.80085 recreated the original "netherite ingots" video sans the accidental racial slur, jokingly saying, "Wait, that doesn't sound right." The video gathered over 10 million plays and 700,000 likes in a year.

By 2024, the "2 Netherite Ingots Incident" came to be used as shorthand to describe any video where a white person accidentally utters a racial epithet, as seen in a December 18th, 2024, TikTok^[5] video posted by @lebronshakingass, which gathered over 100,000 plays and 4,000 likes in a month.
