A Letter For You is a two-panel exploitable in which an photograph of a dog with a letter in its mouth serves as the setup to a punchline visualized as a stock-photo of a person opening the letter.

Origin

The earliest known example of the meme was posted on February 6th, 2018 by the Facebook ^[1] account zestysupreme. That day, they shared an image of a dog with a letter in its mouth. Underneath the photograph, they placed a stock photograph of a person opening a letter. The letter is edited to read "No one cares about you Fortnite wins." The post (shown below) received more than 12,000 reactions, 9,000 comments and 14,000 shares in five months.

Shortly thereafter, the format was adopted by various subreddits, including /r/dogecoin^[2] and /r/rit^[3] (example below, left).

On June 20th, 2018, Tumblr ^[4] user topherchris posted the screen capture from a YouTube ^[5] video of a dog delivering a letter. with the letter in its mouth. Underneath the image is a stock photo of a person opening a letter, which reads, "music is just wiggly air." The post (shown below, center) received more than 1,300 notes in one week.

Days later on June 27th, Redditor^[6] iCyndaquil posted a variation in the /r/PrequelMemes subreddit. In this version, the letter reads "Solo is technically a prequel and needs our support." The post (shown below, right) received more than 3,000 points (95% upvoted) and 150 comments in 24 hours.
