About

Ah I Spilled My X refers to a phrasal template and photoshop trend where users photograph something they've "spilled." The thing they've spilled, however, is something non-physical, oftentimes a photoshop effect or green-screened image. The meme trend started on Twitter in mid-October 2021.

Origin

On October 16th, 2021, Twitter[1] user @KylePlantEmoji tweeted an image of a glass he spilled on his wood floor, paired with the caption "Ah shit I spilled my gaussian blur." The tweet (shown below) received roughly 249,000 likes and 30,300 retweets over the course of four days.

Spread

On October 16th, Twitter[2] user @hahahahaahahlol stole @KylePlantEmoji's tweet and received roughly 17,500 likes in less than 24 hours.

In a reply to @KylePlantEmoji's tweet, Twitter[3] user @DivelQree_J tweeted the first derivative of the meme, using an image where they've spilled the pixel effect. The tweet (shown below, left) received roughly 3,300 likes over four days. Also on October 16th, Twitter[4] user @zachsilberberg tweeted their own version of the trend on their account. The tweet (shown below, right) received roughly 286,600 likes over four days.

More Twitter[5][6] users began to use the phrasal template going into the rest of October. On October 18th, 2021, the official Twitter[7] page of Adobe joined the trend, posting their own tweet (shown below) which received roughly 7,300 likes over the course of two days.
