AI Tokyo Drift Car Edits or Han Car Scene Edits refers to a viral TikTok trend that utilizes Kling AI, a generative AI video platform, to produce videos altering a scene from the 2006 film The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift, which follows the character Sean Boswell, played by actor Lucas Black, who is sent to live with his father in Japan after a reckless street race with a classmate in Texas. There, he becomes immersed in the world of drift racing and its surrounding culture under the guidance of retired drifter Han Lue, portrayed by Sung Kang, who would become a mainstay in the Fast franchise.

The trend involves replacing Han's Mazda RX-7, or Sean and Han themselves, with various vehicles, pop culture references and characters from other media. The videos began to spread on TikTok, X / Twitter and Instagram Reels in mid-February 2026.

Origin

The video used for the trend originates from The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, a standalone sequel to the first two movies in the Fast and Furious film franchise, The Fast and the Furious and 2 Fast 2 Furious.

In the film, protagonist Sean Boswell is sent to live with his father in Japan following a dangerous street race with a classmate, becoming an outsider in a foreign country. He befriends Twinkie (portrayed by rapper Bow Wow), who brings Sean to a car meet in Japan, where he confronts Takashi, the "Drift King." Sean agrees to race Takashi, using a car lent to him by retired drifter Han Lue. After crashing, Sean agrees to work for Han to repay his debt. In turn, Han introduces Sean to drift racing and the culture surrounding it.

The iconic scene used in the meme trend depicts Han leaning against his orange Mazda RX-7 as he waits for Sean outside of his school, accompanied by the song "Six Days (Remix)" by DJ Shadow featuring Mos Def.

Sometime in mid-February 2026, the AI video platform Kling AI released a template featuring the scene, allowing users to replace the Mazda, or Han and Sean themselves.^[2] Soon after the template was made available, videos using the template quickly spread on TikTok and X, with users replacing Han's car with humorous modes of transportation and pop culture references, as well as replacing Han and Sean themselves with different characters from various movies, video games and television shows.

On February 17th, 2026, TikTok^[3] user @mx5modified posted a video made with the template, replacing Han's Mazda with a Little Tikes Cozy Coupe. The video received 293,500 views and 10,900 likes in less than two weeks.

The videos quickly began to proliferate on TikTok in the coming days, with users using the template to rapidly generate variations of the scene. The format’s simplicity and remix-friendly structure made it easy for creators to adapt the clip to different jokes and fandoms.

On February 17th, 2026, TikTok^[4] user @shiftupdetailing posted another variation, showing Han with a beat-up car and the caption "POV: Fast and Furious but Han is an Aussie Bogan." The video received 704,500 views and 73,100 likes in under two weeks.

As the trend continued to spread, users began replacing Han and Sean in the clip as well, and the scene became increasingly modified.

For example, on February 21st, 2026, TikTok^[5] user @nevlad0s posted a video compilation of the edits, showcasing the extent of the AI platform's capabilities. The video received 1.6 million views and 214,700 likes in just five days.
