The trend allegedly started in the comment sections of YouTube community posts that asked people what character could defeat powerful Dragon Ball characters like Goku, akin to the But Can He Beat Goku? and Characters Who Could Beat Sukuna trends. Commenters would write "Anti-Spiral" offering the character as a worthy adversary. People began spamming "Anti-Spiral" beneath unrelated posts and videos going into 2024, spreading the meme outside of anime and manga fandoms.
