Are You Hard? Show Me or Are U Hard? Ye is an exploitable series of memes where a woman DMs a guy asking if he's "hard" (referring to his penis), then asks him to show her, followed by the man sending a picture of himself with a threatening face and fist up, presumably thinking she meant "hard" as in "tough." The earliest version of the meme was uploaded to Imgur in 2019 and inspired variants over the following years replacing the image of the man with other pics that go hard.

Origin

On August 31st, 2019, awwmemes^[1] archived a now-deleted upload to Imgur^[2] showing a likely fake string of Facebook DMs between a woman named Jenny Hugh and an unknown man. The man says, "wats up" and Hugh asks him, "Are u hard," he responds, "ye," and she says, "Show me," followed by the man sending an image of himself with his teeth showing and his fist up (shown below). This is the earliest known upload of the meme.

Spread

The meme gained viral spread across social media. It was reposted to Instagram^[3] by dj_fattony_ on January 21st, 2020, gaining over 1,100 likes in two years. On January 27th, 2020, Redditor Max_Stoned posted the image to /r/GoodFakeTexts,^[4] replacing the image with one of a Black man with a similar expression (shown below, left). The image was also posted to Facebook^[5] page So Wrong It's Funny that day, gaining over 90 shares and 100 reactions in two years. On May 1st, Redditor official-G0D posted a version to r/memes^[6] showing a kid pointing a gun to /r/memes (shown below, right).

The image continued to inspire variants over the following years. On March 9th, 2022, Instagram^[7] page yourfrienddoge posted a version of the meme using a Doge meme, gaining over 5,900 likes in two months (shown below, left). On May 5th, Instagram^[8] user salad.snake posted a version using dripped out characters from Street Fighter, gaining over 23,000 likes in under a day (shown below, right).
