About

Batman Arkham Game Over Screens (also known as Arkham Death Scenes) are a type of video parody that mimics the amusing clips that play in the Arkham Batman video games if the player is defeated.

Origin

The first Batman Arkham Death Scenes can be seen in Batman Arkham Asylum, which was released in 2009.[1] The game over screens depict the villain standing over the player and delivering a one-liner speech, often showing respect or disappointment with Batman. The death screens were well-received by players and were so popular that they returned in the sequel games Batman Arkham City, Batman Arkham Origins, and Batman Arkham Knight.

Spread

Popular parody videos did not start spreading until after the final game in the series, Batman: Arkham Knight. On April 2022, Youtuber Hickmeister uploaded a video titled “Batman Arkham Death Screens Be Like.”[2] The video depicts Aunt May in the Spider Man Far From Home movie “losing” to Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus and Electro. The video amassed over 5.8 million views and roughly 225,000 likes.

On September 2024, Youtuber j-gems uploaded a video titled “Antagonists Taunt You for 5 Minutes (Arkham Knight Style).”[3] The video depicts several villains from other video games delivering a speech in a manner similar to the Arkham video games. The video garnered over 3.2 million views and more than 229,000 likes.
