Big Day For Annoying People is a catchphrase often used in internet stan communities. The phrase first emerged from a viral post on X in 2021, in reference to musicians Taylor Swift and Phoebe Bridgers. The catchphrase has since come to be used to refer to various releases and announcements, as well as to commemorate anniversaries.
Origin
On August 5th, 2021, X[1] user made a post about a collaborative project between Taylor Swift and Phoebe Bridgers, saying that it was a "big day for annoying people." The post gathered over 45,000 likes in two years (seen below).
Spread
The phrase was used to viral effect in subsequent months, with X[2] user @8bitkokoro making a post on October 15th, 2021, using the catchphrase to reference a Froggy Chair in Animal Crossing, gathering over 18,000 likes in two years (seen below, left). On December 13th, 2021, X[3] user @fancysnaake made a post using the catchphrase to refer to Swifties, gathering over 11,000 likes in two years (seen below, right).
The meme traveled to other social media sites in subsequent years, with Tumblr[4] user @ostolero making a text post that read, " “big day for annoying people” truly revolutionized the art of hating," gathering over 25,000 notes in a year. On July 28th, 2023, Instagram[5] page @xiu_shoegaze posted a meme about Carly Rae Jepsen's "The Loveliest Time" and Travis Scott's "Utopia." The post gathered over 3,600 likes in a month (seen below, right).
