About
Breaking Bad Minecraft Memes and Better Call Saul Minecraft Memes are a genre of videos on TikTok in which video creators green-screen scenes from the TV shows Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul overtop Minecraft backgrounds and music to make Minecraft-specific jokes under the umbrella of ironic Breaking Bad memes. The trend started on TikTok in 2022, however, reposts and similar videos surfaced on YouTube and Instagram.
Origin
On August 5th, 2021, TikToker[1] mineralsmarie green-screened the Breaking Bad character Marie Schrader into a Minecraft cave talking to Hank Schrader, represented as Dean Norris' Reaction, about how diamonds are "just rocks" and not minerals, being from the episode "Thirty-Eight Snub."[2][3] Over the course of one year, mineralsmarie's TikTok received roughly 202,000 plays and 27,800 likes (shown below).

Spread
Despite the trend starting in mid-2021, it spread en masse in 2022 after more TikTokers started exploiting the format. On May 22nd, 2022, TikToker[4] spaghetti_recital resurfaced the trend with a video of Walter White trying to break down a wooden Minecraft door as if he were a zombie mob. Over the course of three months, the video received roughly 20,800 plays and 2,600 likes (shown below, left). The video was also uploaded to YouTube[7] on May 22nd, receiving roughly 5,800 views.
On May 25th, 2022, TikToker[5] spaghetti_recital posted another Breaking Bad Minecraft TikTok, using footage from the episode "Fly" [6] to show Walter White falling off a ledge in a cave trying to mine diamonds. In the same amount of time, the video received roughly 2.4 million plays and 394,700 likes (shown below, right).

Continuing into mid-2022, the format became well-known on TikTok as more creators added to the trend. For instance, on August 14th, 2022, TikToker[8] brettpinnelli3 used a scene from the episode "Ozymandias" [9][10] in which Skylar White discovers that Walter might have killed Hank to represent the feeling when you accidentally kill your friend's dog in Minecraft. Over the course of two weeks, the video received roughly 2.4 million plays and 408,000 likes (shown below, left). On August 25th, 2022, TikToker[11] chickenruns a POV of the moment when she watches a Breaking Bad Minecraft TikTok, earning roughly 2.3 million plays and 581,700 likes in four days (shown below, right).
