I Sure Hope We Don't See That Tree With The Thick Ass most often refers to an ironic Breaking Bad meme where Walt and Jesse walk down a hall, one saying they hope not to run into "that tree with the thick ass," followed by them running into the tree and crying in shock. Starting in 2021, the image became used as an exploitable image macro and the subject of photoshops replacing the thick tree with something else, as well as applying variations of the phrase to similar images of different characters.

Origin

On September 7th, 2020, iFunny^[1] user Shobe posted a multi-panel ironic Breaking Bad meme where Walt and Jesse are walking down a hall. One says, "I sure hope we don't see that tree with the thick ass," then in the next panel, a tree with what appears to be a thicc posterior is shown, subtitled, "Hey Walter and Jesse😘." Two shocked reactions are shown from each, followed by them crying, subtitled, "Day ruined. Let's get a Fortnite Burger to cheer ourselves up." The meme gained over 50 smiles in just over a year (shown below).

Around December 7th, 2020, a now-deleted Instagram user photoshopped the meme to reference seeing a thicc version of streamer Jerma985, one of the earliest photoshops of the meme.^[2] On May 23rd, 2021, iFunny^[3] user JolyneC posted a new photoshop of the meme replacing the tree with an image of "loud ice cream," gaining over 60 smiles in eight months (shown below).

On October 23rd, 2021, Twitter^[4] user benpaste posted a new version of the meme referencing _Cookie Run: Ovenbreak gaining over 9,600 likes and 1,300 retweets in three months (shown below, left). On December 24th, Tumblr^[5] user teathattast posted a version of the meme about running into a flying shark, gaining over 500 notes in three weeks (shown below, right).
