About

Breath of the Wild Bookshelf refers to a series of posts by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild players in which they showcase how they've moved a bookshelf from the game's central Hyrule Castle location to far-off places on the map by utilizing the game's Magnesis mechanic which allows players to move metal objects.

Origin

The Hyrule Castle bookshelf has long been a source of fascination and humor among Breath of the Wild enthusiasts. On April 9th, 2017, user DSKoopa posted a video of themselves moving it to remote locations, gaining over 8,000 views (shown below, left). On the 18th, user DeliciousTeaGaming showed a video of themselves defeating a Lynel using only the shelf (shown below, right).

On July 20th, 2017, Redditor nexus4aliving posted to /r/Breath_Of_the_wild a picture of the Hyrule Castle[1] bookshelf he had moved to Link's house in Hateno Village, gaining over 290 points (shown below).

Spread

On December 24th, 2018, Redditor Yoshinkling posted to /r/Breath_of_the_wild[2] a similar picture, gaining over 10,000 points (shown below).

Over the following week, many other players joined in on the trend and posted pictures of places they had taken the bookshelf. Some popular examples include another by Yoshinkling in which he'd taken the bookshelf to the remote island of Eventide, gaining over 1,300 points.[3] User thewhisperinthewind[4] brought the bookshelf to the top of Akkala Tower, gaining over 8,000 points (shown below, right).
