About

Press A to Mount refers to a screenshot from 2017 video game Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, edited to show an option to mount Princess Zelda, who is crawling on her knees. Online, the image has been circulated as a macro and a reaction, often to express sexual interest in a particular female.

Origin

On March 3rd, 2017, Nintendo-developed video game Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released.[1] On March 11th, 2017, YouTube user Teenage Wildlife uploaded a cutscene from the game in which characters Link and Princess Zelda are shown examining flowers. In one particular scene of the cutscene, Zelda is shown crawling on her knees while Link is positioned slightly behind her. The video, titled "Thicc Zelda Cutscene", gained over 600,000 views in two years.[2]

Spread

On February 28th, 2017, an anonymous 4chan user posted the screenshot of the scene, originating from the demo version of the game, to /v/ board (shown below, left).[3] In the following weeks, the screenshot has been used as an object labeling meme. For example, on March 1st, 2017, an unlogged Imgur user posted a meme which gained over 170 views (shown below, right).[4]

Me Spoilers

In May 2019, an edited version of the screenshot in which UI element "Mount", normally only available for mountable animals, was added, gained popularity as an image macro. For example, on May 9th, 2019, Redditor squiddy555 posted a version of the meme which gained over 60,000 upvotes in five days (shown below).[5]
