About
The Cacodemon is a one-eyed red flying monster that appears in the Doom video game series. A signature monster of the Doom series and one of the most famous video game monsters of all time, the Cacodemon has been a popular subject of memes and fanart online.
Origin
On December 10th, 1993, the first-person shooter video game Doom was released.[1] On level E2M1, the one-eyed spherical red flying monster Cacodemon is introduced. In Doom, the Cacodemon floats through the air, fires balls of plasma at the player and attempts to bite him (gameplay video shown below, left). The monster also appeared in all the following installments of the series, including Doom 64, Doom 3, Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal (comparison video shown below, right).[2] The design of the monster was inspired[10] by the cover image of the Manual of the Planes, an AD&D manual that depicted Astral Dreadnought.
