Catch the Ice Dude, also known as Cannonball Ice Dude, is a viral video created in 2012 about a person in Germany jumping into a pool as an advertisement for his new band "SysKill". Unfortunately, he doesn’t realize that the pool is frozen solid, and when he jumps in for a cannonball, he bounces off the ice.

Origin

On Sep 28th, 2012, YouTube TheDude uploaded Catch the Ice Dude onto YouTube. Within one month, it would get over 18 million views.[1] As of June 10th, 2017, it has over 31 million views. The video is of a guy preparing to jump into a pool as an advertisement for his new band, SysKill. Sadly, he fails to realize that water isn't solid, and he lunges toward the ice only to comically bounce off of it.[2]

On October 17th, 2012, ProfesorBacterio posted the video to Reddit, where it got over 3,900 points (95% upvoted), and over 1,600 comments.[3]

On October 17th, 2012, dailyquicklips reuploaded the video onto YouTube, where it got about 4 million views (Below, Left).[4] On Oct 22nd, 2012, newsmediaviral reuploaded the original video, only on this version, its replayed afterward in slow motion. This video has over 125,000 views, and is called" German Man Jumps Into Hard Frozen Pool" (Below, Right).[5]

SysKill

Despite the success of the video, SysKill wasn't a success. They made one song, titled "The F*cker". It has over 128,000 views on YouTube, but it only has under 1,000 likes and over 400 dislikes.[6]
