Chibi Amelia, also known as Smol Ame, refers to fan art of Hololive virtual YouTuber Watson Amelia in chibi style that was originally drawn by Twitter user @walfieee. Online, the art has been used as an exploitable in memes.

Origin

On November 21st, 2020, Twitter^[1] user @walfieee uploaded a fan art GIF of Hololive Virtual YouTuber Watson Amelia. The tweet received more than 10,200 likes and 1,200 retweets (shown below, left). On November 25th, 2020, @walfieee^[2] also uploaded a frame-by-frame version of the GIF. The tweet received more than 2,900 likes and 285 retweets (shown below, right).

Spread

On December 3th, 2020, Twitter^[3] user @AzorDino posted the earliest known meme based on walfieee's fan art by adding her to World War I photos. The tweet received 178 likes and 15 retweets (shown below).

Throughout December of 2020, the character began growing more popular as other social media users began using her in fan art. For example on December 7th, Reddit^[7] user intheclouds365 uploaded an image of Ame Chibi at the outside of the plane to /r/Hololive subreddit. The post received more than 9,600 upvotes (shown below, left). On the same day, Facebook^[8] page "Just another Vtuber page that can soothe your soul" reposted the image. The post received 550 reactions and 174 shares. On December 14th, 2020, Discord^[4] official Twitter uploaded a parody of the Discord connecting screen by using walfieee's fan art. The tweet received more than 32,000 likes and 4,000 retweets (shown below, right).

The frame-by-frame version of it is also used as an exploitable. For example on December 4th, Facebook^[5] user Kang Nep created a public album titled "Ame Cebol Suatu Kompilasi" which collects memes based on Chibi Amelia. On December 8th, Facebook^[6] user JACKY created the same thing titled "I'll keep making amememe until i boring" with the first image uploaded about anime girl throwing Chibi Ame (shown below).

Official Adoption

On August 31st, 2021, Smol Ame and the real Amelia Watson collabed in a stream together, with the official lore for Smol Ame being that she comes from a different reality in which everyone else is smol, meaning that other HoloLive characters received their own smol treatment as well as giving Amelia more material and things to work with. The Collaboration stream received 415,000 views in eight months and was the first of many instances of the company officially adopting Smol Ame into their business practices (shown below).

Smole Ame Shooting Gun Viral Video

On March 20th, 2022, Smol Ame and Shuba Duck both appeared as professionally made mascots for a Japanese convention that featured several HoloLive characters. This is notable as being the first time Amelia Watson has an IRL representation by a real person and shows Smol Ame recognized as a core tenant of marketing for HoloLive as a whole (shown below).
