Classic Art Loop is a series of TikTok videos in which users pose in ways that imitate art to Bach's piece "St. John Passion 1. Herr, unser Herrscher." The videos, that reached the height of their popularity in July 2019, share several notable aspects like a perfect loop and a dramatic scene in which the user looks over their shoulder to find another more disturbing art character in the distance.

Origin

On July 23rd, 2019, TikTok user @lastmanstanley uploaded the first classic art loop (shown below). The video features the user imitating several classic pieces of art and turning to find a set of legs laying dead in the distance. The video gained over 500,400 likes and 34,400 shares in a week.

Spread

On July 26th, 2019, other TikTok users began making their own variation of the original video. TikToker @tootymcnooty used their own illustrations to imitate (Shown below, left). The video gained over 370,000 likes and 4,800 shares in four days. That same day, @jewduh uploaded their variation using pictures of viral cats which accumulated over 125,300 likes and 7,000 shares in four days (shown below, center). The next day, @patrickzajac uploaded a version that included the boar vessel during the dramatic scene. The video garnered over 141,400 likes and 5,600 shares in three days. Many users followed suit and include other meme related images to imitate.
