On May 9th, 2025, TIkTok^[1] user @plannedkarenhood posted a video of singer-songwriter Clairo dining at a restaurant with them, saying to her, "Clairo, these bitches keep staring at us", with Clairo, looking at her with an expression of concern and asking, "who", before looking around. The video (shown below) garnered over 2.4 million views and 540,000 likes in five days.

On May 10th, 2025, X^[2] user @hometomyheart_ posted the earliest found meme based on the image, a First Date Idea meme that gained over 3,200 reposts and 23,000 likes in four days (shown below).

On May 12th, 2025, X^[3] user @CaudilloXIV captioned the image, "how she looks at me after i do my Chinese accent in front of her parents". The post (shown below) received over 4,600 reposts and 165,000 likes in two days.

In the following days, more caption memes based on the image were shared on X, while on Reddit the image saw use as a reaction.
