Consider Yourself an Opp is a catchphrase a part of a phrasal template that calls someone an "opp" because they do something, believe something or are a part of some group humorously deemed wrong by the meme creator. "Consider yourself" and "opp" juxtapose in the phrase, making the AAVE slang term sound nerdy. The memes spread on TikTok in early 2024 via a slew of Slow Fade-In memes.

Origin

On March 19th, 2024, TikToker^[1] @lurkinroundinmybunnysuit posted a Slow Fade-In video showing Jake Paul with a top caption that read, "if you were a logang fan in 2017 consider yourself an opp." The song used "It's Every Day Bro" as its song. Over one month, the video received roughly 24,600 plays and 2,300 likes (shown below). Currently, it is the first known meme to use the phrase, "Consider yourself an opp."

Spread

On the following day, March 20th, 2024, TikToker^[2] @_sdr6_ posted an identical meme, gaining over 2.4 million plays and 390,500 likes in a month.

Going into late March 2024, others followed the phrasal template, like TikToker^[3] @dtx.marv on March 27th, 2024, who wrote, "whoever supported captain america consider yourself an opp," earning over 2.4 million plays and 447,800 likes in three weeks (shown below, left).

On March 28th, 2024, TikToker^[4] @human_supremacy posted an iteration that joked if you weren't from "this planet" (earth) then you should consider yourself an opp, earning over 309,800 plays and 61,300 likes in three weeks (shown below, right).

Largely viral iterations persisted in April 2024, evident in a video posted by TikToker^[5] @drew.peacock59 on April 7th, 2024, which said, "If your thumb looks like this consider yourself an opp," earning over 13.3 million plays and 2.2 million likes in 11 days (shown below).

Similar iterations surfaced on Twitter / X, like a post shared by X^[6] user @camman18_ on April 13th, 2024, that referenced Minecraft, reading, "to the guy that trapped me in this 10 years ago… consider yourself an opp," receiving over 900 likes in five days (shown below).
