About
Cosmo Yelling or "His Name Is X" refers to a series of image caption memes using a screenshot of Cosmo yelling in Timmy Turner's face from The Fairly Oddparents alongside joke captions using the phrasal template "I love that X / HIS NAME IS Y," where a character from a TV show, movie or video game is misnamed (sometimes correctly) followed by Cosmo inaccurately correcting the name by calling the character the title of the property. The format was popularized on Twitter in April 2022.
Origin
On February 18th, 2008, The Fairly Oddparents episode "Fairly OddBaby"[1] aired on television. In the episode, Timmy's male fairy Cosmo becomes pregnant. At one point in the episode, Cosmo experiences mood swings because of the pregnancy and picks Timmy up by the collar and yells in his face (shown below). A screenshot from the scene of Cosmo yelling in Timmy's face has been used in memes, often as a reaction image, as early as December 2021 on Tumblr,[2] though the exact first is unknown. It increased in popularity on Tumblr[3][4] in March 2022.
On April 8th, 2022, Twitter[5] user @ShyGaifu posted the image of Cosmo yelling at Timmy, writing, "'haha dame da ne guy' HIS NAME IS YAKUZA," as if Cosmo is incorrectly attempting to correct Timmy for calling Kazuma Kiryu from the Yakuza series the "Dame Da Ne" guy (shown below). The post gained over 60,000 likes and 10,000 retweets in five days.
Spread
The meme spread across Twitter over the following days as people edited the phrasal template with additional character references. On April 8th, 2022, Twitter[6] user @randeeeznutz posted a version referencing the Ace Attorney series, gaining over 8,000 likes and 1,500 retweets in five days (shown below, left). On April 10th, Twitter[7] user @fazfacts_ posted a version referencing Five Nights at Freddy's, gaining over 8,600 likes and 940 retweets in three days (shown below, right).
