About
I'm Respecting Your Privacy By Knocking But Asserting My Authority As Your Parent By Coming In Anyway is a line said by The Fairly Oddparents character Mr. Turner as he forcefully enters his son Timmy's bedroom using a column as a battering ram. This sentence, as well as the associated scene where Mr.Turner forces the door open, have been used in many memes illustrating a situation where a party imposes itself upon another, typically as an exploitable image macro, but also as a catchphrase.
Origin
On October 18th, 2002, The Fairly Oddparents episode "Information Stupor Highway" first aired on TV. In a scene, Timmy barricades his bedroom door to prevent his dad from entering. This proves ineffective, as his dad decides to bust through it with a battering ram fashioned from a white column after he justifies this action with the iconic line "I'm respecting your privacy by knocking but asserting my authority as your parent by coming in anyway." This scene was uploaded to YouTube[1] by the channel Ally Cat on November 28th, 2016, and has received 220,000 views in three years (shown below).
Spread
An early example of the meme that takes the audio and applies it to a similar situation was posted on the subreddit /r/SquaredCircle[2] by Redditor oldoseamap on January 8th, 2019, in which a pro wrestler is breaking down a front door to a house, gaining 80 upvotes in two years in the process (shown below).
On May 23rd, 2020, the Redditor Fleuramaryllis uploaded a version of the meme that includes the image but has a stereotypical nurse in scrubs bust photoshopped on top of it, to the subreddit /r/BPDmemes,[3] earning 70 upvotes in one year (shown below).
