About
Anarcho-Primitivism, also known as Anprim, is a political ideology that is a direct critique of the development of civilization. It particularly takes issue with the shift to agriculture from the hunter-gatherer lifestyle, which has led to social stratification, coercion, and alienation. The ideology argues to return to the hunter gatherer lifestyle and for the abandonment of organizational systems and technology related to those systems.[1] Some members of the movement are even more extreme, arguing for the abandonment of technology altogether.[2] On the internet, the ideology has been subject to memes and jokes, specifically exaggerating its anti technology leanings and focusing on its adherents' interest in hunter-gatherer lifestyles. As its symbol it uses the anarcho-flag that is also used by other anarchist ideologies like anarcho-communism and anarcho-capitalism, but with green as its top left color.
Origin
Anprim is an offshoot of anarchism, and first formed as a school of thought in response to the writings of Henry David Thoreau, and his book Walden, which advocated for simple living, and being self sufficient in the wilderness, as opposed to in the rapidly developing civilization of the time.[1]
Internet History
Anarcho-primitivism has in recent years become the subject of attention on internet communities, specifically the political ones. Memes centered around anarcho-primivitism tend to involve Ted Kazyinski, also known as the Unabomber, and his notable quote "The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race", which has become a popular copypasta, and monkeys, a notable example of which being Return to Monke.
Anprim also has a notable presence as a character on Jreg's 'Centricide' series. Notable appearances include "The Council of Wacky Ideologies || Centricide 3.5", which depicted Anprim as a caveman and put him alongside other out-there ideologies like transhumanism and posadism as "wacky".(shown below, left) and "Anprim_irl", which had the same caveman characters, which criticized anprim as a form of society.
