Origin

One of the earliest known versions of the "My Dad's Mentality Be Like" meme was posted on August 11th, 2024, by TikTok^[1] user @giovihimself, which shows the text "Can I play FC24" and the dads approval as the thumbs up sunglass emoji below. After the angry emoji as the mom rejects the request, the dad also transforms into the same emoji as the mom (seen below). The post amassed more than 3,700 likes in a week.

Spread

The "My Dad's Mentality Be Like" format quickly spread on TikTok in the following weeks, sparking variations showing the parent's interaction with their kid. For example, on August 13th, 2024, TikTok^[2] user @cannaeh posted a version of the meme where the kid asks for a phone (seen below), primarily approved by the dad but later denied when the mom says no. The post received 6 million plays and 975,000 likes in a week. (shown below)

On August 14th, 2024, TikTok^[3] user @le.nni_ posted the mom version of the meme, captioned "Mom's mentality," which amassed roughly 3 million plays and 553,000 likes in a week
