#DerangedDonald is a nickname for Donald Trump coined by George Conway, husband of White House staffer Kellyanne Conway, which was popularized on Twitter of 2019.
Origin
On April 25th, 2019, George Conway[1] responded to a story that Donald Trump was promoting a story that Britain was spying on him during the 2016 Presidential Election by calling him "Deranged Donald" (shown below). His tweet gained over 10,000 retweets and 34,000 likes (shown below).
Spread
The tweet caused #DerangedDonald to trend throughout the day, as Resistance Twitter users picked it up and used it to mock the president. Some popular examples include @justliminalme who posted a caricature of Trump, gaining over 230 retweets and 340 likes (shown below, left). @rowgirlrow[2] tweeted a picture of the president photoshopped to look like The Joker, gaining over 110 retweets and 370 likes (shown below, right). The hashtag was covered by several news publications, including Daily Beast,[3] The Hill,[4] and Huffington Post.[5]
