Doom Squid Shadow or Doom Power "Morph" Shadow refers to a series of memes, fan art and fan-made content depicting the character Shadow the Hedgehog after using Doom Morph, a Doom Power from the video game Sonic x Shadow Generations that allows him to morph into a squid-like creature. The power was revealed in late August 2024 and became the subject of fan content over the following days.

Origin

On August 20th, 2024, a trailer for Sonic x Shadow Generations was released on the Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube^[1] channel and X^[2] page, garnering over 448,000 views on the former and 31,000 likes on the latter in a day (shown below). The trailer showcases Shadow's "Doom Powers," including "Doom Morph," which allows him to fully transform into a black, squid-like creature.

Shadow's Doom Morph form was compared to a squid shortly after the release of the trailer. For example, on that day, X^[3] user @FrackDeals posted a screenshot from the trailer, writing, "Shadow the Hedgehog can turn into a freaking DOOM SQUID this is the best day of my life 😭🖤❤️," garnering over 3,100 likes in a day (shown below).

Spread

The so-called "Doom Squid" transformation continued to inspire memes and fan content. On August 20th, 2024, X^[4][5] artist @MoonToonsy posted two pieces of art based on the Doom Squid, garnering over 13,000 likes and 17,000 likes, respectively, in a day (first piece shown below).

Later that day, both pieces of art were posted to the subreddit /r/SonicTheHedgehog,^[6][7] garnering over 3,600 and 2,000 upvotes, respectively, in a day.

Also on August 20th, X^[8] user @Hallsth_Eien posted a piece of fan art in which Amy Rose encounters the Doom Squid Shadow, garnering over 3,300 likes in a day (shown below).

On August 21st, 2024, X^[9] user @_Karl0_ posted a comic about the Doom Squid, garnering over 8,300 likes in under a day (shown below).
