About

Dubai Halloween Drone Show is a viral video of a giant skeleton appearing to walk across the skyline in the city of Dubai near the Burj Khalifa on Halloween night in October 2023. The drone show, done by the drone production company Geoscan, amazed many viewers online while also creating a viral debate and controversy as numerous users speculated that it was a fake computer-generated video.

Origin

On October 31st, 2023, the Geoscan[1] official TikTok uploaded a video showing a large skeleton taking a step above a busy pedestrian area in Dubai. The TikTok, only seven seconds in length, quickly went viral with over 350,000 likes on TikTok and over 12 million views on X when it was reposted there that same day (shown below).

Spread

On X, the video was immediately scrutinized and its authenticity debated, with many describing the way that the camera zoomed in on the skeleton and its movements as being artificial. This eventually caused a Community Note to be made on a French post[2] from November 1st, 2023, that garnered notable attention, with the note claiming that the video was fake, as the Geoscan Instagram account didn't have any footage of the skeleton posted though the TikTok did (shown below).

On October 31st, 2023, X user @MasayukiTsuda2 reposted the skeleton drone video, which quickly gained over 8.8 million views in less than 24 hours. In a reply to the video, however, @Masayuki[3] cast doubts on the video's authenticity, saying that the only footage of this event came from Geoscan themselves and that it could be computer generated, going even further to state that Dubai has many CG images made of it (shown below).

Masayuki Tsuda @MasayukiTsuda2 これは実際にあったのではなくCG映像かもしれません。 ショーの記録が この動画しかなく、 ドバイに関しては面白いCG映像が多いからです。 Translated from Japanese by Google This may not be a real thing, but a CG image. This video is the only record of the show, and there are a lot of interesting CG images about Dubai. 9:54 PM Oct 31, 2023147.1K Views
