Overview
Fabregas' Goal Celebration refers to a memorable goal ceremony staged by Spanish football player Cesc Fabreges in an English Premier League club match between FC Arsenal and FC Liverpool in October 2007.
Background
During an English Premier League club match between Arsenal Football Club[1] and the Liverpool Football Club held on October 28th, 2007, Arsenal’s midfielder, Francesc Fabreges[3] made an unexpected goal with ten minutes left.[4] The game resulted in a 1-1 draw.
Notable Development
After the game, two photos of Fabregas taken by Paul Gilham for Getty Images[5][6] began circulating online, first shared on the football news site and forum Football365.[7] Days later, Fabregas' images began spawning photoshopped variations after they were posted on the graphic design forum Estetica Design[8] and gaming forum FreddysHouse[12] on October 31st, 2007. The photoshop meme continued to spread across other football-related forums, drawing participation from the Manchester United fan forum RedCafe[9] on November 1st, followed by Soccer24-7[10], UK Muscle[13], SoccerLens[14] and the Codemasters forum[11] over the next several days.
