JPEGMAFIA vs. Freddie Gibbs refers to online drama between rappers JPEGMAFIA and Freddie Gibbs after JPEGMAFIA (Peggy) called Gibbs out for being a "fake gangster" in a series of now-deleted X / Twitter posts. Peggy made the original post calling out Gibbs on February 23rd, 2024, and continued to call him out over the following days while Gibbs largely ignored and mocked Peggy's posts, inspiring memes and reactions largely criticizing Peggy for his callout.

Background

On February 23rd, 2024, rapper JPEGMAFIA, often referred to as Peggy, made a series of posts on X calling out rapper Freddie Gibbs for being a fake gangster and having a police officer for a father (shown below, left). According to Complex,^[1] Gibbs and Peggy were staying in the same hotel that night. Gibbs has spoken in the past about his dad being a police officer.^[2]

On February 24th, Gibbs responded to the drama on X,^[3] writing, "I need my haters to work harder," garnering over 5,500 likes in two days. Peggy replied that day, "How come I can find your butthole but not you," referencing a leaked video of Gibbs known as Spreadie Gibbs, also writing in response to his "haters" post, "Ima makke ya baby mama work hard" (shown below, right).

Developments

JPEGMAFIA continued to throw insults at Gibbs over the following days, deleting most of the tweets, while Gibbs indirectly acknowledged the beef on X. For example, on February 24th, 2024, Gibbs posted a photo of his hotel food to X^[4] and wrote, "Food good at this hotel," to which Peggy responded, "But where in the hotel are you Spreadrick?"

On the same day, X^[5] user @mezthegoz posted, "rappers have 'beef' and the whole time it's one guy who's too in his head about some shit and another guy who has no idea there was even a problem," posting a screenshot of another deleted Peggy post reading, "Freddie Gibbs is p---y," garnering over 70,000 likes in two days (shown below).

That day, Gibbs posted a video to X^[6] writing, "Howdy neighbor," in which he was filmed smiling while wandering around the hotel, garnering over 28,000 likes in two days (shown below).

Later that day, Peggy posted a video to X^[7] responding directly to Gibbs' post, again calling him out for being a fake gangster (shown below).

Peggy posted another video to X^[8] responding to Gibbs later that day, repeating many of the same insults he already hurled at Gibbs, again mentioning the leaked "spread" video and calling himself the real gangster, garnering over 8,500 likes in two days (shown below).

Online Reactions

The argument inspired memes and reactions across social media in late February 2024, many criticizing Peggy for going after Gibbs, with some also generally mocking the way Gibbs mostly ignored Peggy's insults (examples from X^[9][10] shown below).

On February 25th, 2024, TikToker^[11] @jjsevenbackwardslash posted a Soyjak vs. Mewing Jaw meme about the beef, portraying Peggy as an incorrect mewing diagram, garnering over 280,000 views in a day (shown below).
