Overview

The Patriot Games is an American sporting event set to take place over four days in the fall of 2026, during which one young man and one young woman of high school age from each U.S. state will compete in a series of games in celebration of America's 250th birthday. Most notably, Trump announces the Patriot Games for the fall of 2026, where "one young man and one young woman" from each state and territory will compete in sporting events.

In the video, he assures viewers that no men will be playing women's sports, referencing controversy surrounding trans people in professional sports. The video gained over 20,000 views in a day.

Comparisons to the Hunger Games

The Patriot Games were quickly compared to the Hunger Games, a fictional event in the dystopian series The Hunger Games where two representatives from each "district" are forced to compete in a battle royale event for wealth.

On December 18th, 2025, X^[3] user @QondiNtini quoted a post by @factpostnews sharing the announcement video, writing, "I’m sorry but is he announcing the Hunger Games?" garnering over 73,000 likes in a day.

Shortly after, X^[4] user @barrettadair posted an image of Effie from The Hunger Games to the same post, garnering over 200,000 likes in a day.

Later on December 18th, X^[5] user @PeterTwinklage posted, "I knew we were in late-stage capitalism, but I didn’t realize we were in HUNGER GAMES late-stage capitalism," garnering over 139,000 likes in a day.

Three hours later, Threads^[6] user teewatterss posted an image of Peeta from The Hunger Games disguising himself as a rock, writing, "makeup influencers in the 'patriot games,'" garnering over 18,000 likes in a day.

On the same day, TikToker^[7] @shaghanadoylelive posted a video reacting to the announcement with shock, garnering over 2 million views in a day.

On the night of December 18th, 2025, X^[8] user @pookielester posted, "trump: I’m making the hunger games real | obama: I enjoyed this song about lesbian sex this year," garnering over 130,000 likes in a day.

Around the same time, the announcement video was posted to the /r/CringeTikToks^[9] subreddit, titled, "Trump has announced his very own Hunger Games??? To celebrate America’s 250 birthday next year," garnering over 27,000 upvotes in a day.
