Overview

The Rhegan Cat Neglect Controversy refers to allegations levied against TikToker and influencer Rhegan777 (aka Rhegan Coursey) about her allegedly neglecting her cat Sevyn who passed away in 2021. Sevyn appeared malnourished and sickly in multiple photos and videos leading up to her death that were taken by a roommate in the GoHouse (a content house in Los Angeles) who tried to save the kitten. The controversy surfaced three years later in mid-2024 when Rhegan responded to a TikTok comment that accused her of animal abuse and neglecting Sevyn until the pet's death. Photos and videos allegedly showing Sevyn surfaced on Reddit (predominantly on "snark" subreddits like /r/LAinfluencersnark) and elsewhere purportedly taken by the roommate. The roommate later revealed himself as TikToker Kauschdaddy when he addressed the controversy in a video and claimed that Rhegan had neglected the cat. Rhegan then denied the accusations. Fans and viewers were divided while some believed her and others tried to cancel and deplatform her.

Background

On March 27th, 2021, Instagram^[1] user @way.maker.worshipper posted a photo on behalf of Kitty Rescue LA showing Rhegan777 on the day that she adopted her cat Sevyn (shown below). At the time, Rhegan777 was living at the GoHouse in LA (a content house) as evident in 2021 photos on Instagram.^[2]

Years later, on May 8th, 2024, Rhegan posted a video to her TikTok (since-deleted) in which she addressed a then-recent comment that accused her of killing her cat by keeping it in a closet. In the video, she denied that her cat died from neglect and instead told a story about how one of her roommates snuck into her room, resulting in the cat leaving the room and then escaping the house because the back door was left open.

The video was reposted to the /r/rhegan777snark subreddit by Redditor^[3] Ok-Bat8324 on June 5th, 2024 (shown below).

On June 15th, 2024, Redditor^[4] couchsofa7 shared a leaked video to the /r/rhegan777snark subreddit that allegedly showed a video of Sevyn appearing malnourished days before her passing in 2021.

Developments

Kauschdaddy's Response

On June 16th, 2024, TikToker^[5] @kauschdaddy posted a video in which he claimed to be the GoHouse roommate who took the abovementioned photos and videos of Sevyn. He alleged that Rhegan was neglecting Sevyn and went away for several days, leaving Sevyn in her closet. Kauschdaddy's mom was visiting and the two allegedly decided to check on Sevyn, deciding to rescue the cat and take her to the vet.

Kauschdaddy said that he left the backdoor open to make it look like Sevyn had run away. Kauschdaddy alleged that Sevyn passed away because she couldn't recover from being malnourished and was having seizures. The vet purportedly said that she might recover but she passed away instead. Kauschdaddy also alleged that Rhegan seemed unaffected by Sevyn's disappearance. In a day, his video received roughly 4 million plays and 390,700 likes (shown below).

Rhegan's Response To Kauschdaddy

On June 16th, 2024, Rhegan posted a stitch^[6] with Kauschdaddy's video. In the roughly eight-minute-long video, she denied his claims and showed photos of Sevyn purportedly taken days before she went missing. She alleged that Sevyn's fur was not matted and questioned Kauschdaddy's story, saying that she was going to go the legal route. In a day, the video received roughly 3.1 million plays and 254,300 likes (shown below).
