Fagslop is a humorous slang term used to refer to yaoi works of low quality and broad appeal. A portmanteau of "fag" and "slop," the term has been used on 4chan since 2022 and achieved broader virality online in mid-2024. Notably, >Be me >Straight Male 4chan greentext stories have frequently been referred to as "fagslop" on X / Twitter.

Origin

While earlier instances of the word "fagslop" can be found on 4chan^[1][2] prior to August 2022, used synonymously to "goyslop," the earliest discovered post which used the word in its current meaning to describe gay-themed content of low quality was made by an anonymous user on 4chan's /trash/^[3] board in an art thread on August 28th, 2022 (shown below).

The term saw a gradual spread on 4chan in 2022 and 2023, often being used on /co/,^[4] /thrash/^[5] and other boards of the site.

Following the initial spread online, the term spread further outside the imageboard in mid-2024. On July 6th, 2024, X^[6] user @Newposter2 made the earliest found notable post using the word in which they complained about a decrease in the quality of yaoi art. The post (shown below) received over 80 reposts and 1,000 likes in seven months.

On July 9th, 2024, X^[7] user @hyptiot posted a yaoi fan art of Genshin Impact characters Venti and Diluc with the caption "I looooooooooove fagslop." The post (shown below) received over 630 reposts and 8,700 likes in seven months.

In the following months, multiple posts using the term to describe both yaoi content of subpar quality and of broad appeal went viral on X / Twitter. Notably, the word has frequently been used to describe >Be Me >Straight Male greentexts hailing from 4chan.

For example, on August 18th, 2024, X^[8] user @lightroad312 posted one such greentext while referring to it as "fagslop." The post (shown below) received over 250 reposts and 6,200 likes.

Following the popularization of the term on X, Tumblr and Bluesky, users posted reaction images and memes based on the term.

For example, on February 6th, 2025, X^[9] user @elfemboyrojo posted a Waiter! Waiter! More Toddlers Please! meme that received over 60 reposts and 1,200 likes in four days.
