The incident later became known as the Côte-des-Neiges shooting.

In a video^[1] of the incident that went viral that day, the rabbi can be seen approaching the female police officer while she's behind cover, in a firefight with the terrorist, who had just shot and killed her partner. Her partner can be seen dead in the frame. Panicked, she turns and faces the rabbi as he's shot and killed. She then runs for new cover as the gunman approaches her and fires several times.

According to reports, it's unconfirmed if the female cop is the one who shot the man or if it was the gunman, and an investigation is still underway as of June 23rd, 2026.^[10]

The gunman was identified as Seth Scott Hatfield, a 25-year-old male from Alberta, Canada. Purportedly, he was linked to a manifesto that spoke out against Jewish people, women, and porn.^[2][3]
