First Drink, Last Drink Challenge or First Drink vs. Last Drink is a trend and internet challenge on TikTok where people are filmed at a wedding or other social gathering drinking their first and last drinks of the event, showcasing how drunk they are by the end with two contrasting videos or images. The trend began around June 2021 and became increasingly popularized throughout the following year, seeing a surge in virality around early June 2022.
Origin
It is unclear who posted the first "first drink vs. last drink" video, with videos following the trend dating back to early June 2021. On June 5th, 2021, TikToker[1] @thestephaniee posted a video where she shows numerous people at a party in Miami recorded with their first drink and last drink, gaining over 32,000 views in a year (shown below, left). On an unknown date prior to June 23rd, now-deleted TikToker @medussssssssssa posted a video following the format that gained significant popularity. She reuploaded it to her new TikTok[2] account, @medusssssssssssa, on June 23rd (shown below, right). It is possible this is the first video in the trend. It was reuploaded to YouTube[3] that July, gaining over 11,000 views in a year.

Spread
The trend continued to gain momentum on TikTok over the course of the year. On July 7th, 2021, TikToker[4] @jazzerbugg posted a video of people doing the challenge at a family get-together, gaining over 17,000 views in 11 months (shown below, left). On August 19th, TikToker[5] @ellieradders_ posted a version of the trend, gaining over 234,000 views in 10 months (shown below, right).

At the end of May 2022, several videos of people performing the trend at weddings went viral. On May 29th, TikToker[6] @hallieeeexx posted a video participating in the challenge, gaining over 3.3 million views in just under two weeks (shown below, left). On May 31st, TikToker[7] @mandp30_mylittlelife posted a video participating in the challenge, gaining over 200,000 views in a comparable span of time (shown below, right).

On June 5th, 2022, TikToker[8] @nievejones_ posted a video playing the challenge at a wedding, gaining over 9.4 million views in five days (shown below). The video gained media attention, including a repost on the LADBible TikTok[9] page the next day, gaining over 4 million views and an article from Barstool Sports[10] on June 7th.
