FL Studio Speedruns also known as Crank Dat Soulja Boy Speedruns refers to a trend where music producers attempt to create or recreate a song as fast as possible using Fruity Loops a.k.a. FL Studio software. The trend grew popular after YouTuber Servida Music posted a speedrun video where he recreated Soulja Boy's song "Crank Dat" in 37 seconds, with producers trying and succeeding in beating his record in subsequent months.

Origin

Producers have been posting videos showing themselves "speedrunning" FL Studio, or making music as fast as they can on Fruity Loops software since at least January 2022,^[1] with YouTuber^[2] Servida Music creating the first notable post in the trend on February 7th, 2022. The video titled, "I can recreate Soulja Boy's "Crank That" in 37.39 seconds! world record on February 7th, 2022 gathered over 700,000 views in over a year (seen below).

Spread

On August 5th, 2022, producer and streamer Eliminate^[3] posted a video beating Servida Music's record and recreating the song in 33 seconds. The post gathered over 80,000 views on YouTube (seen below).

TikToker^[4] @prodrobtmb played a large role in popularising FL Studio speedruns on TikTok, with a November 5th, 2022 post gathering over 400,000 plays and 72,000 likes in a year (seen below, left). On September 1st, 2023, Servida Music^[5] posted a video showing how he beat Eliminate's "Crank Dat" record, recreating the beat in under 20 seconds (seen below, right). The post gathered over 6 million plays and 500,000 likes in three months.

On December 9th, 2023, @prodrobtmb^[6] beat the Soulja Boy "Crank Dat" record by remaking the song in under 17 seconds (seen below, right). The post gathered over 4.8 million views and 500,000 likes in five days.
