About
Fortnite Sound Lip Dubs refers to a trend on TikTok where creators flamboyantly lip dub sound effects and music from the video game Fortnite. It started with a viral video meme posted on the platform in late 2021 that TikTokers exploited, recreating it in further iterations.
Origin
On December 8th, 2021, TikToker[1] @hehshhddmacksjs posted a video (shown below) that used the Babe Please Stop template, replacing the Yes Chad in the image to be a guy moving his lips semi-rapidly. The man's lips move in sync to the Fortnite sounds being played, acting as a response to Crying Aya Asagiri's request of "Babe Please Stop You're Not Fortnite." The video received roughly 2.2 million plays and 366,700 likes over the course of two weeks.

Spread
On December 9th, 2021, TIkToker[2] @urboymatt_ posted a video using the sound from the above TikTok. In the video (shown below), he is lying down in bed with the flash on, shining bright on his face. And just like the man in the original "Babe Please Stop" meme, he moves his lips to the Fortnite sounds being played. His TikTok received roughly 251,500 plays and 23,700 likes over two weeks' time.

Other TikTokers started adding onto the trend going into December. For instance, on December 10th, 2021, TikToker[3] @thatkidelvis__ posted a video (shown below, left) that translates from Spanish to, "Crush: I love Fortnite / Me:" His video received roughly 996,800 plays and 173,000 likes over ten days. Another TikToker vaguely recreated this Spanish TikTok in English on December 12th: @gabethebabe214.[4] His video (shown below, right) gained roughly 2.1 million plays and 294,700 likes over nine days.

More TikTokers[5] joined the trend going into December, with the lip dubs becoming increasingly flamboyant, incorporating dramatized lip-smacking and eyebrow movements, among other facial ticks. As of December 21st, 2021, the sound[6] has roughly 13,000 videos using it.
