About

Fragrantica Notes or the Fragrantica Trend is a series of exploitable memes using the 2000s layout for the perfume encyclopedia website Fragrantica's scent notes tool, which tells users the notes they might smell in a given perfume. Memes using the layout, which show an image unrelated to perfume above the scent notes, started appearing online in 2025, particularly on Instagram.

In April and May 2026, a meme trend using the layout was popularized on TikTok. The trend typically begins with a positive or neutral image, caption and scent notes, then transitions to a similar, more disturbing or creepy image with more suggestively dark scent notes and a caption underneath, showing a situation going from innocent to dark and serious. Some examples are based on real-life murders, missing persons cases and disturbing incidents. The transition noise is from the creepypasta Flash game Lacey's Wardrobe.

Origin

Fragrantica is a perfume encyclopedia website launched in 2007 that is meant to give users an idea of what a certain perfume might smell like.

One of the earliest known posts to use the site's classic scent notes layout as a meme was posted by Instagram[1] user mermaidmood1 on October 12th, 2025, gaining over 750 likes in seven months. The posts consists of several memes that imagine the scents to popular 2000s movies like Aquarmarine, The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants and more.

2026 Fragrantics TikTok Trend

On April 19th, 2026, TikToker[2] @ayumihehe posted a meme using the Fragrantica notes layout that gained over 760,000 views in a month. The meme starts with an image of a school hallway over the caption, "I missed you!" and scent notes including "milk," "skin" and "lotus." The image then transitions using a sound from Lacey's Wardrobe[3] to an image of the now-closed Woodrow Wilson high school over the caption, "I'm sorry I'm doing this I love you so much," and scent notes like "blood," dried rose" and "metallic notes," possibly meant to invoke thoughts of a school shooting.
