Origin

On August 17th, 2012, Redditor sardonically[2] posted a thread to the /r/gif/[2] subreddit titled "Terminator 2. The whole thing. In GIF format. Sixty-three megabytes."

On November 6th, 2013, the subreddit /r/fullmoviegifs[1]was created by Redditor matt01ss. As of September 2014, the subreddit has gained over 6,000 readers.

Spread

On November 7th, the subreddit was covered by Uproxx[4] and Vice.[5] On November 8th, The Huffington Post[3] published an article covering the subreddit titled "Watch An Entire Movie Squeezed Into A Single GIF, Because Why Not." The same day it was covered by several websites including The Daily Dot[6] and Gizmodo.[7]
