Game Grumps "WHAT IS THIS?" Freakout refers to a clip from of a Game Grumps Let's Play of Sonic '06 in which a glitch causes the character Knuckles gets stuck to a piece of the level. This leads Arin Hanson to scream at the game while Jon Jafari attempts to calm him down. The moment became one of the most famous in the Game Grumps fandom and has inspired numerous popular parody animations and fan art.

Origin

On December 5th, 2012, Game Grumps uploaded the 20th episode of their Sonic '06 playthrough, a game notorious for its glitches and faulty mechanics.. While Jafari plays as Knuckles, a glitch causes him to get stuck to a wall, causing Hanson to freakout (moment shown below). The episode gained over 3.3 million views.



Jon: Arin? Arin don't leave! ARIIIIN, I love you!
Arin: No, I'm fucking done. I'm fucking done!
Jon: No you're not!
Arin: This is bullshit! This is fucking bullshit! WHAT IS THIS? WHAT IS THIS? WHAT IS MY LIFE?
Jon: I'm stuck!
Arin: I can't do it Jon!
Jon: I can't either!
Arin: I can't fucking do it anymore!
Jon: Well I'll tell ya what Arin, you can give up now, or you can dig it out, because I certainly can't do it without you, and I know you can't do it without me!
Arin: I appreciate it, but look what we're dealing with man! You've gotta draw the line somewhere, you've gotta draw a fucking line in the sand, dude! You gotta make a statement! You gotta look inside yourself and say, "What am I willing to put up with today? NOT FUCKIN' THIS!"

The day the episode was uploaded, YouTuber applesgosh posted an isolated clip of the freakout, gaining over 477,000 views (shown below). The episode is the third-most viewed non-animated Game Grumps episode of all time.[1]



The day after the episode aired, the first animation of the moment was posted to YouTube by user AngelXMikey, gaining over 1.2 million views (shown below, left). On December 31st, 2012, YouTuber thatscoutisaspy posted a Source Filmmaker animation of the moment, gaining over 3 million views (shown below, right).



A few popular videos paired the clip with animations of Attack On Titan, as the lead character in that series is named "Eren." On June 5th, 2013, YouTuber X-Trav posted an edit which paired Game Grumps and Titan, gaining over 47,000 views (shown below, left). On April 19th, 2016, YouTuber Emily Chen – neenanu88 posted an Attack On Titan animation with the audio, gaining over 396,000 views (shown below, right).



Additionally, the moment as inspired fan tributes in various forms. For example a post to the /r/GameGrumps subreddit shows a student using a portion of Arin's freakout as his yearbook quote. The post gained over 1,300 points (shown below, left). On June 25th, 2013, fan art of the moment posted to the subreddit gained over 410 points (shown below, right).
