Gengar Cushion refers to a pillow and blanket combination created by Premium Bandai in the likeness of the Pokémon Gengar. After social media became aware of the product, it led to jokes and fan art particularly surrounding the model demonstrating how to use the product.

Origin

On January 8th, 2021, Premium Bandai introduced a Gengar cushion, a pillow and blanket combination made in the likeness of the Pokémon Gengar.^[1] The tongue unfurls out of Gengar's mouth and can be used as a cushion or blanket, leaving an empty space in the Pokémon's mouth one can place their head. According to Pokeshopper,^[2] pre-orders for the cushion sold out in two hours. In their tweet, they included a diagram with a model showing the multiple ways the cushion could be used, gaining over 1,700 retweets and 6,400 likes (shown below).

Spread

The cushion and its model drew attention for its humorous concept and the model's humorous poses. Twitter user @yasi^[3] created a tag yourself meme based on the picture (shown below, left). User @goddessofcheese^[4] posted a dialogue parody about the model, gaining over 440 retweets and 1,400 likes (shown below, right).

Others posted fan art related to the cushion. For example, user @saiykik^[5] posted art of Pokémon Sword and Shield characters using the cushion, gaining over 130 retweets and 700 likes (shown below, left). User @MysticWaffle032^[6] posted art of the Gengar, gaining over 60 retweets and 380 likes (shown below, right).
